Completed during a year in which J Dilla spent mostly in a hospital bed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Donuts would gain particular poignancy when, only three days after its release, February 10, 2006, the artist ed away, losing his battle with a rare blood disease.
The original LP pressing of Donuts had the "Donut" album cover, illustrated by Jeff Jank. The vinyl was later reissued with the "Smile" photograph cover, and the version with the drawing sleeve slowly went out of print. For the 10th anniversary of Donuts, the album was reissued with the original 'Donut' cover, for a limited run with a gatefold sleeve that includes liner notes about the making of the album from the book Donuts 33 1/3, written by Jordan Ferguson. Also released as a 45rpm boxed set (STH2309) consisting of seven 7-inch singles ... plus one extra.
In 2015, four unique numbered vinyl editions of the album were reissued for the Vinyl Me, Please subsequently provided subscribers with a replacement copy of the defective first disc. Discogs Notice: Each variation should be submitted as a unique release. For more information, please refer to this forum topic.

Mine sounds pretty damn good, light surface noise but doesn't really interfere with the songs, no crackle audible unless they're actually in the songs, great buy for the price. Knowing that this was probably cut from a 16/44 source, its beautiful sounding! -

Revisiting after years of neglect, and pleased to know Rainbo somehow kept their dick in their pants long enough to press clean records. With low-key fancy setup, results are clear and engaging. Why not give this the 45rpm Bernie Grundman treatment while their pressing multiple versions of this annually? That'd be nice, but this is a nice play for 25$. -

Never felt someone’s soul so much than when listening to J Dilla. Magnum Opus. A masterfully driven body of work. Has more bass than newer pressings which bodes well for the record. Highly recommend 11/10. A masterpiece U-LOVE -

Bought this a while ago and only had the chance to spin it now - I've been missing out! Great sound and no surface noise or real complaints besides having some noticeable warping on A/B. Side A/B isn't skipping though so no issues there. Side C/D had an undersized spindle hole and had to force it on a bit. Side C/D also warped but still no skipping so I think we're ok. Will be ordering a record weight/clamp. -
Am I the only one that has the Madvillainy label over the normal "STOP" "GO" labels?
