I will echo previous comments by saying that this sounds truly fantastic, and blows my digital copies out of the water having finally picked up a new copy for just 25EUR. Definitely worth it. True to the original packaging, but a gatefold and poly-lined inners would have done the records a bit more justice.

excellent flat and silent pressing quality. highly recommended. if you´re jd-fan grab one.
1 star deducted because of the hard innersleeves.
every child now knows that these sleeves are not good for the vinyls.
when will the distributors finally understand it?

Fantastic sounding record. Clean, almost 0 surface noise, clear and dynamic. This is a great collection of songs. “Dead Souls”, “Atmosphere” and “Love Will Tears Us Apart” are my favourites on the record. This complements the 2 studio albums really well. A must have for any Joy Division lover. Dare I say too, if newcomers find the Joy Division studio albums too moody or depressing, “Substance” might be the perfect gateway to “understand” them. Out of all compilations that exist, this is probably one of the best there is. It has one of the best comprehensive collection of songs out there. What’s great too is that none of those songs are on any of their studio albums except for “She’s Lost Control”. But even that song is a great inclusion because it’s a completely different mix. All in all, this is a fantastic pressing. Get it!

Very good pressing with great clarity. Vinyl is silent. It sounds slightly restrained but it's worth every penny.

Trying to work out if there's an unlisted pressing or if what I have is a variation of this one. My copy is very dark translucent red (only visible when held to the light) and has etched runouts: TOWNHOUSE MPO FACT 250 A2 and TOWNHOUSE MPO FAC 250 B2. "MPO" is scratched out on both sides, as is the "T" of "FACT" on side A. The pressing rings match Lyntone, not MPO. So what's going on?

This pressing is proof that it is possible to produce clean sounding records from start to finish. I recommend this pressing to any JD fan, even if you own the original. It's worth having for both sound and reference.

Another person on discogs, AndyPLewis, wrote a few comments down below that if you buy just one Joy Divison release this is the one. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I've never heard anyone express anything like that. Maybe if you just want the five singles, this is the cheapest way to do it. Other wise this is the LAST album you would buy. I hope no one thinks this is some sort of career overview. The five non-album singles are here, but since this was put out they have much better compilations. Joy Division Permanent 1995 is what you'd want. Better yet, buy Heart and Soul, the box set. Best of all, get the following on vinyl: their two proper albums, and the compilations that collect the remaining track: Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Still, Substance (Version with two vinyl albums) and you're pretty much set. And maybe pick out the best live album they reissued. You need to hear them live, particularly for Stephen Morris's amazing drumming and Ian's vocals, and Bernard and Hooky are no slouches, so they sound pretty awesome on some of those official released concernts This one disc version of Substance [Substance (LP, Compilation) Fact250] is actually the only thing that has been superceeded by other compilations and is to be avoided.

Nice open, dynamic sound on this. Sourced from vinyl though as you can hear the occasional light tick on several of the tracks ;)

Fantastic pressing. Smooth and dead quiet. Major bargain to get this much of their catalog on vinyl.
