Notes
The US version of 'The White Room' was strongly edited for its official commercial release.
It has a total playing time of 39:39, and it contains 9 tracks.
The original UK version presents the first five tracks ('What Time Is Love?' through 'Last Train To Trancentral') as a kind of 'mini-concert' with sampled crowd noise from, among other places, U2's 'Rattle And Hum'. All five tracks are segued and mixed.
It has a total playing time printed of 45:05, but in reality it's only 43:54. It lists 9 songs, but only has 8 indexed.
The US version eliminates the crowd noise, with some tracks fading out near the end. This is probably as the crowd noise was sampled from a Doors album and hence the obvious copyright problems.
It also has the single mix of 'Last Train To Trancentral' instead of the mellower UK album version, edits 'No More Tears' down from 9:24 to 6:42, and adds a little more wind noise at the end of the closing 'Justified And Ancient'.
The Japanese version follows the US format, with the single version of 'Last Train To Trancentral' replaced by the 12" version of that mix. In addition, it includes three extra tracks.
On 23rd April 2021 the 'Director's Cut' of the album was made available through streaming services and was the first time the original 1989 cut of the record had been officially released.

Edited 5 months agoThis is the North American version of the album. It omits the live audience samples taken from U2's "Rattle 'n' Hum" and The Doors' "Absolutely Live" albums which were probably not cleared for the American market. The album was released in North America by Arista, in 1992. This reissue is from 2003, as stated on the disc's label, and it includes all mixes from the "Justified & Ancient" 12" single as bonus tracks. It was released in the Canadian market and comes with a clear jewel case and a white label extending to the center and covering the runout. The disc was manufactured in the United States, as stated on the back cover. Other versions state the manufacturing country with clear stickers on the back of the case. All mixes slightly differ from the European version of the album. The most notable difference is "Last Train to Trancentral." The American version includes the 7" radio edit which wasn't available when the album was first released in the UK and Europe. The European version contains a mix that's exclusive to the album.

Picked up a decent copy of this record in a bin for just $4 one year ago. Great and fun record! -

This album is magical, and this version slaps. Available at a price from Europe mostly, or from a seabed somewhere for those prepared to swim/dive. -

"What Time Is Love? (LP Mix)", sound system masterpiece. °°°°° -

This album was a great disappointment at the time. Like someone already mentioned earlier, it was made deliberately cheesy for whatever, possibly subversive, reasons. Or maybe they just wanted to do the "final cash-in" which they did in the end by burning the money and deleting the catalogue! The first release of "What Time is Love", Chill Out and the early Orb connection was their best stuff. -

I have this album with no sleeve and what an album it is...,, whoever has the sleeve stole a great sleeve with the wrong record in it so that will teach them hahaha. If anyone knows where i can obtain a sleeve i would be eternally gratefull... -

Why did this one shoot up in value? My Dad gave this to me as a gift 4-5 years ago, he found it for $15 from a shop that religiously uses Discogs for pricing. -
