If not for the sibilance in Jon Andersons vocals, this would be an 11 on a 10 scale. Great pressing. Vocals are a bit bright at times. But I still love this LP. Get this!
-
Punchy and dynamic but vocals suffer from sibilance. Listenable but not a “go to” pressing. Bass & Drums ala Squire & White are exceptional.

The follow up to 90125 with the same band line up is a bit more dated because it's pretty sterile and cold sounding. The drums are big and almost like a drum machine. Jon Anderson's vocals are a little detached and everything is more style over substance.
The opening Rhythm Of Love is almost funny with its use of Beach Boys style harmonies, a bit bizarre for the time.
The album seems to lack bass too. You can hear it but can't really feel it. Trevor Rabin's guitar is inventive and mechanical. The title track itself could be any number of bands on a radio friendly unit shifter! A lot of fans say it's as good as 90125 but I'm not entirely convinced! -

Perhaps in the shadow of 90125 this album was never given due credit. It is one of my favorite albums in general and my friends made fun of me for it at the time. I think I bought it on release because they talked about experiencing psychedelics so they could 'see' and I was in the same frame of mind in the 80s. I discovered the rest of the record was really stunning especially Shoot High Aim Low & I'm Running. I still get chills listening to Shoot High like today. It just captures a feeling I had as a teenager in the 80s.
The production, mastering, and pressing are so incredible. This is easily one of the best vinyl pressings I own. The DMM really gives the production some incredible clarity. So glad I bought this back then and have it still now. -
Edited one year agoI’m still enjoying my skip-free, totally flat and deliciously quiet copy. Friday Music is kinda hit or miss but thankfully most of mine are on the same level as this one. It’s a pretty good mix and master with a decently wide soundstage but maybe a little dense in placement. Overall a very enjoyable listen!
I wouldn't advise this as a "don't buy" as stated below. Just buy from somewhere that takes returns and kep returning it until you get a good copy. -

People that hate on this record are usually hard core “original lineup” fans or just bigger fans of their early, deep Progressive Rock work. In reality, it was a solid follow up to “90125”, so much that sometimes it sounds like it would have been the second album in a double album release. “Love Will Find A Way” (the lead single) was one of the band’s larger hits (which is why some hardcore fans hated this record, it was “commercial”) along with “Rhythm of Love”. Personally, I loved the title track a ton and on a recent re-listen in the store when we received a great copy I was reminded what a banger it was for a group that shred away from that earlier in its career. I have no idea what people are taking about when they complain about the mastering, etc. on this record - it sounds giant and beautiful. Worth a listen for sure. -
Edited one year agoThis album gets slagged off by a lot of Yes fans. Not sure why, about the only thing I would say are negative are some of the 80's keys. This pressing of the album is phenomenal. Blows away any of the digital versions I have heard. Alan's drum hits are crisp, precise and thick...maybe some of the best recordings of his drums, period. Trevor's guitars are very well recorded too, as are Jon's vocals. And Chris's Rickenbacker slices through heavy and thick. Highlight tracks are *not* the singles..."Shoot High", "Final Eyes", "I'm Running" and "Song for Harmonic Convergence" make this album. The mastering is a little uneven between songs, but if you can turn it up, you won't notice. Not as compressed as the digital versions, which makes for a wonderful listen. This is a very nice dynamic recording and the pressing is wonderful. I think I had about 10 small clicks throughout, never obtrusive. After having not listened to this vinyl except maybe once or twice & to record it to cassette back when I bought it new, I was simply stunned at how much better this LP sounds than either of the CD versions I have.

I bought this a while back because I found it quite cheap, still in shrink, in a shop. I am playing it now because hjmaki1013 brought my attention to it - "will my copy also skip?" :o
No, my copy is perfect: no skips, no pops, no ticks.
I can't say that it's superior to an OG but it's really really good.
I like Ron McMaster's cuts, and this is no exception.
Recommended. -

This is a nice Yes album from late 80's, and sounds like that. I love the music but I woud like that is an analog recording. This is digital and lost some of its magic. The sound is not so bad, but as I said, it lost some of its magic.
