I recently got a virtually unplayed copy of this and was amazed at how the resonant and clean the sub bass is on The Green Man. The timing on the tune is also unusual - 2 bar, 4 bar, 2 bar - so watch the drop point when mixing.

i think the crackhead rhythm is nicked from the calling by fade to black? incidentally there is an acoustic version on the album "death is not the end" which i feel suits this track much better....

Uhh yeah, this was such a dj rekurd back in 92 ... The track that sold this 12" was the B2 "Rum & Black Remix" ... Big with all club dj´s at the time !! ... going to London (from Sweden) just to buy rekurds, and this was everywhere :) ... // Tommy

808 state played The Green Man a lot on the 808 state show, sunset 102fm Tuesday Nights. Tis a tune full of samples. when it first entered the Eastern Bloc charts, it sold out within half a day. Not bad for a tune named after a crack dealing pub lol.

From purchasing this in Mansfield, Notts as a clueless tearaway youth hooked on breakbeat, I found myself 15 years later living on the next street down from 'The Green Man' In Dalston. Now having long been renamed 'The Shacklewell arms', and going through some major changes a couple of years back (along with the whole area), it is now full of dandy ra- raa's & cool kids. Long live S.U.A.D

                The Green Man is where,
                the Crackhead gets his Crack,
                Dont you know that?
Listen to the lyrics of the track,
You will learn some interesting fact!!!!

d1111s on the Mic, yyyeeeeaaahhh ))))

Seriously tho Autobiography Of A Crackhead is second best as far as Ravin to it goes but the lyrics have a bit of Hackney History in them, Sandringham Road frontline is mentioned )), houses sell for nice money round there nowadays. )

The story of the Crackhead would have hopefully detered many from this desparate life!

Forget about Autobiography of a Crackhead, whilst its okay its nothing compared to the raw edged breakbeat rave madness on the flip side. The Green Man was a favorite of Carl Cox's and many other 'big name' DJ's for many months. Highly recommended.
