Way ahead of its time in 1983 and a certified Prelude classic. A dream team of Timmy Regisford, Boyd Jarvis and Tony Humphries combined to make this, one of the earliest examples of house music put on wax. Regisford and Jarvis followed this with other classics like Chocolette on Supertronics, Level 3 on Fleetwood and their remix of Tony Cook's 'On The Floor' but this one is my favourite. Part of the vocals were sampled in 1991 by Masters at Work for the equally amazing 'Our Mute Horn'. -
Edited 19 years ago"The Music Got Me" was big in Chicago in the early 80s. It was pre-house, or proto-garage. They used to play with 2 copies of the record, re-editing it live, stretching the murky bass line and those legendary up-mixed spitting hi-hats. The vocals are pretty sampled too, that "whoo-whoo-whoo, free your body" -line is from this record. Visual's other legendary cut was "Somehow, Someway", which is equally important in the deveploment of Garage sound.

Ultra low-key dance track that most people have never even heard of. It debuted on the black singles charts on 3/26/83 at #76 for 6 weeks and was released by Prelude Records, the home of D Train. Actually, the lead singer of "The Music Got Me" sounds exactly like James "D-Train" Williams, let alone Colonel Abrams. Visual was a studio project fronted by Boyd Jarvis and DJ Tim Regisford.
