Jill Scott – Who Is Jill Scott? (Words And Sounds Vol. 1)

Very nice pressing. Black vinyl is flat, pretty quiet and I love the full audio soundstage from this remastered pressing. The music coming from my 4 speakers fill the room. Nice highs, mids, and lows. I really wish this came with a gatefold cover. The thick paper inners are ok but I decided to clean and transfer the LPs to anti static MoFi sleeves. I missed out on the blue vinyl edition but this is good enough!!

Wow...this is an EXTRAORDINARY pressing. When I was a teenager and was just discovering neo soul this album was super important for me, and having this 1st press in my collection feels unreal ! The sound, though bass-oriented (but in the good way), is super rich and clear. Considering that the remastered versions have received mixed reviews I'm thinking the original is the definitive one...for now !

This is so great. Just listening to the beautiful blue vinyl. Last time I properly heard this was a CD in the car (good Audi system) a couple of decades ago. Loved it then. Love it more now. Maybe my ears are old (they are). Maybe, because I’m old I know that vinyl sometimes ‘pops and clicks’ but this sounds so good to me. Maybe someone oversold some of you people vinyl but please don’t let the perfect drive out the good. Jill, by the way, is close to perfect

Honest review:

The vinyl looks stunning and beautifully made, I wished that I could say the same about the quality etc which I will talk about now.

There are pops here and then, some of them are just in the audio. But there are exceptions where a lot of pops come from poor quality made vinyl.

Coming to skips. I’ve had two skips in total. When I played on the skips again, they both just disappeared. So I concluded that the reasons it skipped was due to dirt being stuck in the groove, since it didn’t skip anymore after playing it again.

Vinyl rating (sound quality): 6.5/10. Beautiful album, that was poorly pressed unfortunately.

My copy sounds really nice. No skips or cracks like others have spoke of. A bit of simbilance at times, most notably on Love Rain. I’ll give it a good clean later, but not upset whatsoever with this purchase.

Personally for me the pressing was decent. A couple of pops and crackles but nothing like the persistent level of surface noise others reported. As for the album itself: well it is Jilly from Philly!

Had to return this because there was surface noise all over the album. Usually, I don't mind it in between songs, but when it sounds like that across the entire album, it becomes annoying. What a shame because it's one of my favorite albums and this claims to be remastered.

I'd say this company needs to pay a good bit more attention to quality control of the product.
