Foo Fighters – Concrete And Gold

Not my favorite Foo Fighters Album but it definitely does grow on you.

There’s some really good songs and some really forgettable songs on this record….

As far as the pressing itself it’s above average. Minor surface noise and somewhat flat dynamics.

Overall average to BARELY above average

Guess this is mine per the logo cover, no hype stick and code. P. USA is not crossed out on mone. If it's GZ Media, sounds way better than other GZ records I have. Some noise on side C but otherwise, very happy with this. Hearing parts of the songs I've never heard on digital. Glad to have found on RSD for €25 in a local shop!

One of those albums you think the songs could have been fitted onto one disc. That aside nice clean dynamic pressing.

My copy is clean with no noise, however it's significantly quieter (less decibels, not talking surface noise) than other records. Had me troubleshooting my system, but other records play at a normal volume. This one is significantly (25%?) quieter. Minor annoyance, anyone else experience this?

Nice and quiet vinyl without any cleaning necessary, And of course sounds awesome!

Concrete and Gold has been described by the band as an album where "hard rock extremes and pop sensibilities collide. The album is said to be reflective of the future of the United States against the backdrop of the 2016 Election. The band recruited pop producer Greg Kurstin, who had never worked on a rock album before. Originally, Grohl had wanted to record the album in front of 20,000 fans at the Hollywood Bowl, but upon learning that PJ Harvey already did that, he lost interest in the idea. It has been said that Concrete and Gold is the Foo Fighters trying not to sound like the Foo Fighters, and with few exceptions, that is true. The album lacks a cohesiveness of previous releases, and sounds almost like an afterthought. It is truly one of the Foos weakest efforts, whether that was due to Grohl's extended musical break after his injury, the state of the world, or just disinterest. The album is an altogether forgettable collection of ideas that would be better suited as b-sides, or just dropped completely. Sunday Rain, a collaboration with Paul McCartney and sung by the late Taylor Hawkins, is a standout, as is Run and to some extent Sky, but otherwise, this is not a record that you will be re-visiting very often. Sonically, the record is just as boring. The mix is flat, lacks dynamics, and is just sort of there. It's a clean presentation, but just feels like its lacking something, just like the songs themselves.

The digital version doesn't do this album justice. My copy was clean flat and sounds very dynamic. Not their best album but a solid effort

Wondering if they're going to repress it with the new logo on the cover. Unsure if they changed it due to similarities to another logo, or if it was a label decision

As per some of the other comments, this sounded pretty average until I actually cleaned it with my vinyl style with spin clean fluid. I'd suggest this for any new or used record.

I've ittedly not had time to listen to side C yet. It was a bit crackly on the run in but this really doesn't matter.

Ill edit this post if my opinion changes after a few more listens and after listening to side C.

Greatest Hits and There is Nothing Left to lose arguably sound a slight bit better to me. But I don't think there's an issue with this inherently.

Dec17. Hmmm, another good/very good LP, but not great. When I 1st heard, like all Foo Fighter LPs, I really liked, but like most of their albums, on repeated listens that became just liked. The pop and polished production is too pervasive for mine. 'Wasting Light' it is not. I wanted another LP to not be the normal 7/10, but it is.
Still, as usual, some belter songs to sing along to.
Jul19. Although the latest FF album, this one sounds like it has aged more than the others. Often happens with immediately accessible songs. It is not that they are bad songs, it's just that, apart from 'Run' they are pop songs and produced that way. Tempted to lower score to 3/5 but won't for now. 3.5/5.
