I wish there was phone apps when I started this subforum 18 and a half years ago. That would have been the ideal platform for this idea to grow.

Discogs didn't me or my small asks to improve how this subforum could work. I think they thought this forum would direct people to stores to buy music and not to Discogs (which at the time was just about to launch the marketplace). Discogs sort of took the idea then and it didn't really pan out because they didn't put much thought into it. I wanted to make it much more. (See my thread sticky FIRST TIME POSTING? PLEASE READ on what it could have been). An APP would have been the ideal platform for this idea I had to grow.

Ah well, I don't even know what it is now. Or if anyone gets anything out of it.

BTW the simple ask that I asked Discogs and got denied was the simple ability to edit threads/posts. Now they are all locked and you can't edit the info. Ugh. I still really like the idea of what it can be. A true listing of all the stores and how to make it a great experience for record diggers. I enjoy going to physical stores to much. Stores were dying when I made this subforum 1/15/2006. Stores were closing left and right. I wanted to them and help bring them back....and keep the ones open alive. I am glad to have seen the record resurgence help physical stores. And seeing ones open is amazing.

Sorry for not making this subforum more than what it is. Probably should of just deleted it.

Hey TIM! It was a great idea at the time, and I certainly made some use of it over the years. But I think the main issue is the general demise of the forums over the past decade or so, there just isn't that much activity, input, discussion, to keep things expanding and keep details up to date. Didn't realise discogs had curtailed your efforts, but not a surprise really.

Anyway, good to see you're still active here,

Like most Discogs forums, despite how useful they were, they seemed to have died a slow death. I the electronic music forum being a really great place which then got hijacked by bickering and egos before a lot of people just stopped looking. I pretty much checked out of all forums then. Wasted potential on the Discogs site/app.

Hey gmos. How are you? Yes, if we couldn't edit the threads than there was no use doing it imo. Silly for them to put that restriction on any topic. I tried to edit for awhile so they would stay active but I wasn't going to waste my time to keep that up.

I really wanted this idea to grow...

Hey, I'm a recent Discogs and I came to this group hoping to in, find more shops in my area and update the ones that have closed down. Sad to see this initiative didn't work out within a Discogs context.

So does anyone know of websites or online indexes that are more up to date, and perhaps more... amenable to contributions than this forum has been?

Ya, pretty sad Discogs wouldnt allow us to edit the threads in this forum. A simple feature allowing us would have made this a great resource. Record stores were closing left and right in 2006 when this forum was started. I'm happy that vinyl made it back regardless and stores are flourishing more than we could have hoped. Cheers
