Some times s who initiate a merge, realise later, that they did a mistake and they does't have the posibility to cancel the merge. The only alternative they have is to write a comment that they did a mistake and every one should vote "no" to stop the merge process.
What do you think about the posibility for merge initiators to be able to cancel a merge process, if they realise they did a mistake?
If this merge is not voted through, this is an example:

Currently it;s at the mercy of the vote. Some are still voting yes in spite of the fact it will result in data loss and the wrong data is being kept. Hopefully no one else will render yes votes. -

Yes, I did this a couple weeks ago by accident. I was looking to add a different color vinyl to a Master Release and somehow I ended up at a Merge Release thread.. and after doing so I realized my error.. I ended up finding the right answer and added it to the Master Release, but it's still pending a Merge. So I apologize for my confusion and whoever has to waste time voting on it.. wish there was a way to cancel it though, that would make things easier for a lot of people.
(Oh and also I did leave a comment for whoever comes across it to please vote NO and I'm terribly sorry for the error) -

You can't cancel a merge request. It has to be voted first. -

IMO, it'd be great if the who initiated the merge had the ability to cancel it. -

Yes! Exactly this.
If they want to merge, it still has to wait for fair votes. But if the wants to cancel their requested merge, they should be allowed to do so. I can't think of any problems or consequences this would cause.

I totally agree with the fact that it could be useful if the initiators of the merging process had the possibility to delete/annihilate the merging process they started. of course they should explain why they would delete the process.
in case the process has already received a few yes votes, the process can be deleted by the initiator and a second could start a new merging request, if this second is totally sure about it (but this last thing won't happen, in my opinion) -

+1 for initiator to be able to cancel the merge should they realize it's in error.
At present it has to be voted up/down or also time out if not enough votes either way.
On the merge request that started this thread is SO don't get this:
mourtzas "they are almost identical"
Almost identical! Are you [bleep] serious? -

Agreed.
