Sorting is buggy

For what anyone can need huge button "random item" and very small search input?

I just saw the new design after adding some new CD to my collection. First impressions are that it is not as good as the old version.

1) The fields that I modify - Media & Sleeve Condition plus Notes - are no longer visible unless I scroll to the right and that means that I lose the information on the Title and Artist.
2) The collection value is now related to the whole collection. I use Folders to separate different types of media and need to be able to see the value of the folders or subsets that I have selected. As far as I can see this is not available - definitely a retrograde capability.
3) I cannot see any point in the "Random Item" button...

Not happy with the changes. I can't use the data to manage my collection and will have to find new ways of working.

Just checked the data that gets Exported if you select the "Export Collection" option. It looks the same as previous versions, so doesn't contain the Valuation data. It would be great if the Min, Median and Max values were exported - I could then use a spreadsheet to get the valuations for folders that I need to manage my collection, instead of tying to do it in the "Collection" view.

Well, it keeps switching between new and old, but while it's been on new, much as I don't like change, I'm really glad to see the actual added date like you can see when exporting, this will save me counting on my fingers....

Please give us the option to revert. It’s the same with release pages you did some time ago where the page jumps up and down as we scroll the releases on an artist page. Wish you would revert that too. Not sure it needs a new look just because. Simplicity works best instead of having all these drop menus or page options. The collection page is to big as if I’m zoomed in on everything as well. Btw why is so important to have the collection value take up the whole top of the page? Everything was fine a few years ago. If it isn’t broken…

Some thoughts (for whatever that is worth)

Overall, it feels like a bit of thought was put into things and spacing addressed. That's nice.

Alas, it has a lot of cons:

- the entire table is rendered in a scrolling div. That means that I can no longer easily scroll horizontally--which is a requirement given how ridiculously wide the collection list is rendered as. So instead of just being able to go to the bottom of my browser window to scroll horizontally, I now have to 1) scroll to the bottom fo the page vertically 2) find the div 3) scroll horizontally 4) scroll the browser window back up to the top.

- it's 2024. How does anyone do a webpage redesign in 2024 and not consider making it responsive?

- do you really need to take up that much space to render the collection value? I my macbook, half the vertical browser window is taken up with that.

The only plus I can find is that--at least for now--viewing the collection in mobile safari still looks OK. Why can't you just take that mobile view and make it responsive and use it for the full desktop view as well?

PLEASE spend some time usability testing this stuff. It's kind of weird how much effort is being put into these new things but no real usability testing from what I can see (or, if there is usability testing, maybe find better testers? Cuz they're missing things!)

Yes, exactly. At least not one, like the collection, that you know fine well will be both taller and wider than the page for 99.99% of all s.

Was this tested on an with 1 item in their collection and no custom fields?

One thing I like is I can open a Random Item release page in a separate tab.

One thing I can't fathom is why I now have a new item in my collection, in a folder named Uncategorized, which doesn't actually exist. Trying to open the folder results in "Something went wrong in this section of the page". I ed the .csv for my collection and confirmed there's no item ascribed to the Uncategorized folder. When I go to Manage Collection Folders and try to Delete Forever button it appears to do nothing.

I hope that there are going to be filters for each field in the collection, specifically including custom ones. I notice that it's still not possible to sort on a custom field, which is a major oversight.
I use custom fields for grouping by various properties (physical location of the release, whether I've re-checked the data in my current review of my collection, when I bought it, how I'm filing it within the physical location, etc). It would be so useful to be able to show only items that fall within a grouping (ie, show all items not yet re-checked).

Other than the frustrating, infuriating, and, frankly, inevitable waste of valuable screen space, and the sudden reduction in speed of loading, it's not a complete disaster... so far.

I get this too. Uncategorized was always there, even before this, but didn't show (I don't think) unless there was something in it. I'm guessing it's showing regardless now, and returning an error when there is nothing to show.

Similarly if you click on another 's collection folder you now get a very minimal view with similar details now absent. Hopefully this is all a work in progress

Might be useful to display the date added in 01 Jan 24 format rather than 01 January 2024; seems a bit of a waste of screen space.

At least the collection value per entry is now in sync with the value on the release page. That's something.

Wow - I assumed this thread title was sarcastic, posted by a . Either Discogs is being self-aware about it's reputation around "improvements", or we've reached a point of post-satire nightmarishness.

Another issue: whilst it's still not possible to remove/hide a column that's useless to me (ie 'rating', date-added), it is possible to move it to the end of the grid. However the positions of the columns has reset the next time the page is refreshed (including switching between views).

I'm seeing the new page and the data is a mess. If I choose to order by median value, my collection doesn't display in order by median value. I'm sure the same is true of the low and high values too.

It's not the same functionality. The functionality stinks.

The page automatically resets to "most recently added view" every time you click on the "collection" link, instead of using whichever settings you were using previously.

When you get to the bottom of a page and click to go to the next page, it takes you to the bottom of that page instead of the top.

So we can do their work for them, finding all the problems and listing them.

Moving things between folders is so buggy I don't even know where to start.

I selected a folder, waited (a long time) for it to show those items. Picked an item to move to another folder, and ticked the box. There is a significant delay between clicking the box and the tick appearing in it. Then I selected "Move to..." another folder. This worked, albeit after another very long delay, and then it auto-selected the folder I moved it to (which I don't think it should do - it ought to remain on the folder I moved from; which I've currently got selected).

The drop-down list of folders now lists the "All" folder with the number of items in it now showing the same number as the folder I was in (or am in... I can't now and it takes so long to do it to check I can't be arsed to try again now,) instead of the number for "All" items. The only way to make sure everything is showing correctly is to re-visit the collection page from the dashboard or menu to ensure you're showing "All" items. Or fiddle the url to do the same.

Even worse on a phone. Unusable.

The biggest negatives for me is that anything beginning with "The" is now sorted under T and that I have to manually toggle alphabetical view each session. I can live with the rest of it, but to me, it really looked better before. I'd be happy with a 'revert to previous version' button too.

I'm really not sure why anyone thought a 'facelift' was needed; were there really so many complaints about the old version?

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed that if I click the little music note icon under my forum avatar, the old version of the collection does load. So I guess we can get to it that way for now...

EDIT to add: welp, that's no longer true. Now the new version loads.

Yeah, I don't see myself purchasing anything on Discogs until they revert these horrible UI "improvements." Whoever redesigned these pages should be terminated immediately.

I mean, Jesus Christ, it takes me a full 5 seconds to load my collection with this buggy ass, unoptimized ass layout. I can only imagine how people with collections in the thousands are doing. This is bullshit. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!

But yea, Median and Min are a complete mess. And kind of a random mess. I can't even figure out what it's doing.

This actually is quite helpful, I can move the custom fields that I need to the front, the star values and ratings get moved to the right, off screen. I can work with this, thank you!

that said is sorting by price an absolute mess for anyone else, they're completely out of order

That is useful... now to allow the custom fields to be resized - I can find them now but it's hard to get to the far ones since I can't resize the custom fields that only need a small amount of space. And it seems to reset after reloading the page

Not mentioned until now:
The "Manage Collection Folders And Custom Fields" only shows a limited selection of folders and there is no way to reach any folder behind this selection.

Not sure about other computers, but MacBooks can do horizontal scrolling using a two-finger gesture since at least 16 years. I.e. my MBA M2 15", but my MBP 15" from 2008 can do it, too. No need to scroll down and up at all. Unless you have disabled this particular gesture.
Also, as far as I recall, scroll wheel mice can scroll horizonally by using a modifier key.

Also, we can now adjust the column width, finally!

I am once again asking for all the data in the collection view to be exported when you export the data - i.e. the sales history figures. So I can use Excel to make a nice table but it has all the Min Med Max numbers in there. *bangs head against wall*

I liked having the info of how many copies are for sale and the starting price just under each image. You got rid of that before when you ruined the collection page. So can you bring it back again please.

2. Why is jump to page option removed?

3. Why is the table size so small that notes are not fully visible if there is text input for example link? now i have to scroll down to
the end to be able to scroll horizontally to see the notes? Notes arent auto fitting the table.

4. Why is there so much spacing in between the releases?

6. Why is the dropdown menu removed if i want to move one reselase from "uncategorized" folder to my custom folder? Now i have to click checkbox and scroll to end of the page and move, btw confirmation "okay" button is greyed out when choosing destination folder, then you have to choose different folder and come back to the one you intended at first, only then "okay" button becomes clickable/green.

I used to be able to sort by LOW and it would group all the titles with no sales history together.
Now it's all haphazard.

Well you certainly didn't give *me* a "facelift". You ruined my day! It's unfortunately goodbye Discogs now. I'm going to build my own database, where I can view my collection like *I* want. Not like you want. Unfortunately I still have to use your service for purchasing new music, but I'll be removing my collection.

It'll depends on the hardware capabilities of the touchpad and drivers. I use a desktop PC for all discoggery and I need to use scroll bars, so that means finding the scroll bars to grab them with the mouse pointer, scrolling (while the thing I'm scrolling to see is off screen because it's at the top of the list, and the scroll bars are at the bottom) and then finding where I was previously before I went a-scrollin'. Try using only the pointer and button-click on scroll bars for moving around the collection window. If you're not pissed off after 60 seconds, you're probably brain dead! :D

In fact, I can scroll with the mouse, but only using an extension called Scroll Anywhere which lets me scroll by dragging via the mouse wheel button. But I don't know its availability for other browsers (I'm using Firefox) and you shouldn't have to use a third party tool just to navigate around a web page.

Also, any danger of a staff member accessing my and getting rid of the non-existent item in my cart, it's starting to annoy me now.

I'm still on the old design for now, but reports of it being slow to load have me a bit worried. I usually only really use the collection page for looking up specific releases or artists, which has always been quick and easy.

Just you I'm afraid, not working here, sorting by price is impossible, i keep stuck in this error message screen. :(

The rollout must be somehow session-based or something. My desktop PC has been using the new layout for over 24 hours now, but as of an hour (ish, when I woke up) ago my laptop is still showing the old view. Both using the same ISP, modem, router and switch, both cabled connections.

I heavily dislike it, older was better.

Yeah, that would explain it. In the 30 minutes between my first and second look, I have in fact updated my MacBook from MacOS Ventura 13.6.8 to 13.6.9, thus causing various system cache resets and reboots. Also, my VPN IP address has logically changed in the meantime.

One thing I like is I can open a Random Item release page in a separate tab.

Initially I was pleased with this, too, because I quite like using that function. It's good, from time to time, to be reminded of a release you wouldn't normally think about. Middle-click and get a random release without having to wait while the collection page refreshes to have another go.

However, it's the same item each middle-click. It still needs that page refresh to generate a new random number, it seems :(

Desktop PC - I prefer the older layout. Everything takes up far too much space when all I want is a simple list.

If I want to check titles I own by an artist I can only see 5 or 6 before I have to start scrolling up and down due to how much space each entry takes up. Previously many more entries would be visible at a glance. Even if I select without pictures the entry still takes up the same amount of space.

It seems like you've took the phone app and blew it up onto a PC screen with little to no sensible optimisation or ability to adjust. Looks almost nice but the amount of wasted space and lack of optimisation is a step backwards.

Been checking out the way information is displayed and sorted. Bottom line is that it's inconsistent (and that's being polite).

1) Field marked as Year (supposedly Year of release) is also used to display Region so something like "2004 - Europe" is displayed if both pieces of data are available. However, for those with an unknown release date the entry is simply the Region. This creates a bit of a mess with sorting. (This may have been the case previously, but should be fixed - exported data shows "0" for the Year of release when it is not known)
2) Sorting on the Min, Median and Max values is definitely not working as it should. As others have noted, the entries with no values seem to cause a problem.
3) The data displayed for entries with multiple discs (typically Box Sets, but also some double albums) is a mess. Instead of one line of data for Format, some entries have multiple lines As an example, XTC's Apple Box set is now 5 lines: 4 of them are "CD, Album, Reissue, Stereo" and the fifth is "Box Set, Compilation, Limited Edition" - the last line would be enough. I also noted that if you Cut and Paste the block of text into a document or spreadsheet, it comes across as 5 separate lines
4) Something similar happens with the Label field in that extra lines are used to contain data if multiple labels entries are associated with a release. However, it seems that these are displayed as multiple rows, but are only a single entity when cut and paste is used.

These inconsistencies are more than annoying. I rely on cut and paste to get simple descriptions of the discs that I own and wish to share with other collectors.

Also, why is OS lying?

I can no longer see if any copies are for sale of an item in someone's collection (without needing to click on said item), so it does not have the "same functionality"

If they were separate, moveable columns, someone would want to place artist name before album like it used to (and should) be, and that's out of the question. It has to be prevented by any means necessary. </irony>

But yeah. It really makes no sense to move and resize them if they are in the same cell. It's been a long time since I've seen anything this retarded. We don't need information on top of each other, but rather side by side.

It's impossible to manage all my folders now. Only a certain amount are shown in the folder managment and the rest is simply hidden with no way to modify them. Please fix this.

Changes to collection note fields / custom fields are not being saved. I tried removing the media/sleeve condition fields in the settings and they reappear.

When moving items into a folder, the collection view now automatically redirects to the destination folder after moving. Not sure if intended but it's very annoying when sorting items from "uncategorized" into multiple different folders as I have to return to "uncategorized" every time after moving items. This was not the case before the update.

Sorting by label doesn't work correctly. It sorts by date added.

At the moment, all my desktop browsers use the old version (thank goodness!) But mobile browser has a new layout. I've manage to resize the columns, but not to move them. Is it even possible? Also, the columns reset to original size if the page is refreshed, so the whole feature is absolutely pointless. Also all the loading times are ridiculously excessive. How can something so fast and smooth turn to "swimming in the jam" in one bang? And someone dares to call that development?

Same here. Every time i try to select other way of sorting (label, name, year, etc) i get this error -» Something went wrong in this section of the page.

The "new look" have very bad UX, totally confusing to s. In list view can't click to artwork to open release... this is crazy! Notes can't be used too!?! 🤮

It won't.

Once discogs have decided that the new page is done (which will be long before all the bugs fail to be fixed) the old page will become fully inaccessible. There's no point in them creating a new version if they're just going to keep the old version. The whole point of this dreary exercise is to ultimately remove all of the old code.

Insane to have the search bar on the right hand side and random item on the left now..

How about fixing some general issues on the site instead of tweaking bollocks nobody asks for and then managing to make things worse in the process. (YouTube videos playing, expanding the search functionality in the wantlist-marketplace, the key-shortcut to the profile page, darkmode, block seller function etc etc)

Edit: To add the most annoying thing now is that using a darkmode from another script I can't even read the folders list after expanding no. Used to be greyed out a bit and still readable but totally blank now. Please FIX THIS! It's made trying to navigate the collection utmost troublesome and difficult now. (Almost useless...)

Edit 2: OMFG after checking the new layout for more than 5 seconds the list is endless of what's been wrecked.
Best sum-up so far is from Podrum (thanks for writing all that out!;

1. Why is the album title first, artist name second? everywhere else is 1. Artist 2. Title

2. Why is jump to page option removed?

3. Why is the table size so small that notes are not fully visible if there is text input for example link? now i have to scroll down to
the end to be able to scroll horizontally to see the notes? Notes arent auto fitting the table.

4. Why is there so much spacing in between the releases?

5. Why cant i remove min med max fields?

6. Why is the dropdown menu removed if i want to move one reselase from "uncategorized" folder to my custom folder? Now i have to click checkbox and scroll to end of the page and move, btw confirmation "okay" button is greyed out when choosing destination folder, then you have to choose different folder and come back to the one you intended at first, only then "okay" button becomes clickable/green.

7. If i add new custom field its so small that is completely useless, and is not resizible.

8. Why is artwork not clickable?

9. Display of collection on mobile(iphone), on web is awful, everything is cut off.

10. When you scroll to bottom, and click next page, when loaded - it stays at the bottom, its not auto scrolled to top.

11. I noticed now that order of items is different on desktop web and on mobile web, using the same sorting - by newest addition, something like that never happend, thats really inconvenient.

Yep. I can understand that. And all the points listed here so far need to be addressed IMHO... Such a mess!

But yea, Median and Min are a complete mess. And kind of a random mess. I can't even figure out what it's doing.

Thanks for that. I hadn't checked the max view, only the median. Oddly, I'm back to the old collection page this morning, so I can't check for anything else right now.

Is there anyway to change the background to dark? There is so much very bright white in this layout...

It won't.

Once discogs have decided that the new page is done (which will be long before all the bugs fail to be fixed) the old page will become fully inaccessible. There's no point in them creating a new version if they're just going to keep the old version. The whole point of this dreary exercise is to ultimately remove all of the old code.

Interestingly the same trick still works for the artist and label pages, so who knows, maybe it'll keep working for collection for quite a while too.

I am sure it has been said already but will state here. HATE the new format. Can't see my custom labels and update them at a glance. I have to go into a specific item of mine to make the updates I want rather than just update from the first view of the collection. A ton more work to make notes and updates on the fly.
a HUGE thumbs down.

The fact that the table that houses all the info has been made "thinner" and harder to spot makes it harder for ND (neuro-diverse) people to read overall. It's almost like they don't seem to take into how many people who collect music are on the spectrum, cause if they did the template designs would look far less... like this.

Not only should they bring the jump to page button back, they should also put one at the top of the page.
It's annoying to have to scroll down to the bottom of the page just to change page numbers, especially when I show 250 per page (when it re, anyway).

Not the same functionality at all. Took me 4x as long to make updates. One can do one item at a time. complete lack of ease for the end . The only upside is it gave a developer something to do. Don't fix if it is not broken please.

Seriously... bring back where we can see our custom fields from the main collection page. I add 20-50 records to my collection per week and did edits and notations so quick before. now I have to go 1 entry at a time. a 5-minute task before now will take an hour. Get an actual to develop. This new interface is not friendly and a huge step backwards.
