Notes
Issued in special 10mm thick Digipak: two folding front half-s sealed with a sticker, opening to reveal a top folding flap which houses a 12-page credits photobooklet. Digipak is high glossy unlike the EU version that has a matt and much thinner paper.
The front half-s do not overlap like at the European Polydor release.
Later, One Little Indian issued this in jewel case also.
Tracks 1 & 4: Produced for Timbaland Productions. Co-produced for Danjahandz Production.
Tracks 6 & 9: Brass section sampled from <Drawing Restraint 9> by Björk.
From the booklet:
Variously recorded, edited and mixed at Björk's place in New York, USA and Reykjavik, Iceland; Manhattan Center Studios in New York, USA; Gee Jam Studio in Portland, Jamaica; Studio Caraïbes in Brussels, Belgium; Studio Bogolan in Bamako, Mali; the 23rd floor of the W Hotel, San Francisco, USA; the cabin in Thingvellir, Iceland; the boat in Malta, La Gomera and Tunisia; Looking Glass Studios in New York, USA; Olympic Studios in London, UK; Damian's place in London, UK; The Pierce Rooms in London, UK and Sony Music Studios, New York USA.
Björk would like to thank Nellee Hooper for paternal musical advice.
[Cover] costume inspired by works by the artist Luigi Ontani represented by Galleria Massimo de Carlo.

i will never be able to understand the reason people have a hatred towards this record. it is an amazing set of songs and always has me wanting to play it again. the design, melodies and harmonies across every track truly makes this album beautiful and so exciting to listen to.

Edited 17 years agoHer voice always sucked or annoyed for its best part - but that's the beauty of it. It is just amazing how Bjork can actually repeat herself musically and always sounding different. With every next album she pushed away the boundaries, whether her own or musically speaking, putting together producers and musicians alike that usually bare absolutely zero resemblance among themselves; Anthony, Timbaland, Mark Bell, various brass sections, etc.
'Volta' is another masterpiece and many saying so aren't exaggerating. Of course, it all depends, how much you truly ire Bjork's twisted electronics without feeling endangered by her usual vocal acrobatics.
