Edited 4 years agoWow, this record!!! The energy in Pyramid is honestly transforming. I feel like the new sounds coming out of from the Opia crowd are a direct homage to this. Big love to this record!

Edited 9 years agoPyramid is quite simply one of the most mystical, marvelously majestic & magical tracks I own. Its intriguing beauty resides within its simplicity. While as old school goa trance as Tamagochi digital pets, it surprisingly strikes a chord with each new generation, never shaking off its evergreen status. I have fond memories of hearing it dropped in real time for the last time at Ozora Festival by one of its makers James Monroe on a sunny morning in front of thousands of dancers. Summer of 2011 if memory stands correct. Made me a life time believer.
In an awkward twist of fate, in a shade all its own, it eschews the production tricks of the time. No hindu related samples. No alien culture references. No odes to illegal substances. Even the melodic bits are pretty much restrained. It builds around an irresistible tribalistic groove and constantly morphing, evolving acid lines. However, even those are relatively withheld.
The real trick here is in the atmosphere and the mood. The music elevates to new levels as it marches on, but it never achieves greatness through eruptions and climaxes. It's all in the pagan drums, shaking and cluttering high-end effects and the perfectly executed squelches of acid. Then the melody rips the cut at around the eight minute mark. Then, and only then, do you realize that this is a picture perfect goa trance classic.
Rejuvination is a stone cold gem of its time and era. Its place in history is more than deserved. However, the A side tune has risen above genre boundaries, styles and trends. Yes, Pyramid really is one of those tunes you probably should own if you fancy electronic music. The haunting charm it possesses is seldom matched in modern electronic music, and the fact it holds its own against state of the present productions over two decades after its birth is quite a compliment. -
Edited 11 years agoTHIS is the haunting tribal atmosphere so full of melancholy and triumph that surprisingly little Goa pulled off back in the day. Surprising because the genre supposedly mixed East and West, so-called "First" and "Third" Worlds. One of the all-time classic Goa eps. If only all Technossomy tracks were this good! ~*~

Edited 18 years agoA Side: Simply the BEST track by Technossomy.
It begins with this huge atmospheric thing and has synths going mad in circles a la green nuns of the revolution way, really impressive and then it adds some tribalistic element who really fit perfectly with the atmosphere that builds up. The track is very long but you can't find a boring point in it, it simply continues to evolve and add elements till it's apex, plus the melody enchains you.
B Side: Gives us something really different, an experimental melody which is quite intriguing and interesting, on the same style of the other side, with a lot of acidic lines and synths, definetely a mysterius and magical track here too.
Such a marvellous EP, a must have
