Another botch-up job by the same person who botched-up some of Bureau B's releases, Willem Makkee. His "mastering" is a joke. This CD release was sourced from vinyl, and you can hear vinyl popping and crackling all over it, especially track two Sehr Kosmisch. I guess Groenland thinks it is perfectly acceptable to release CDs with vinyl noise on them? This was really infuriating. They completely ruined this release. Sheer incompetence. Unlistenable. Had to get rid of it and buy the Japanese version.

Edited 9 years agoOK, this review is for the 2015 reissue not the album itself (which is 10/10 for me, my favourite krautrock record of all time!).
Okay, the album cover, the booklet and the whole physical material is great! Very glossy and shinny. Inside the booklet you can read the story and context of the time, you all know it, so no surprise there, but still good to have it.
But what about the music? Well, this is where the thing fails. First of all, the music sounds louder, completely unnecessary because the last reissues were in the perfect volume, but looks like they needed to make it sound as loud as records from nowadays. This makes the songs lose dynamism, so that's why I point it out, but OK, let's pretend we're fine with this... the MAIN problem comes with the fact that you can hear pops and crackles as if it was a vinyl!!! It's not in just one or two songs, it's ALL over the record and believe me, you'll notice it...! It looks like they made the digital version by ripping the vinyl directly and not going to the main source (WHAAAT?). I appreciate vinyl, but that's not the way to do it!
I emailed Grönland Records and they said that they can ensure me that their products are "meeting the highest standards in manufacturing"... I CAN'T believe them, because I just had to compare this reissue with the old reissues and their speech falls apart inmediately.
If you can put your hands on an older reissue then do it, you really don't need to listen to this version with glitches and pops all over it.
Reissue rating: 5/10.
