I have nothing to compare it to, but even despite not being much of a mono guy, this sounds absolutely fantastic to me. I can't say I understand the negative reception at all. I'm also using a stereo cartridge and not using any other tricks to play it in genuine mono yet it sounds perfect. Maybe I'm just easily impressed thanks to my new system but I couldn't be happier with this one.
-
I was very disappointed with the sound on this. Thin, bright, and etchy. Really surprised because I like so much of RK Smith's work. The Dylan bootleg series that he mastered sounds great for example.
I'm going to track down a Sundazed mono, I'm sure it will be better. -
I have bought recently my copy brand new for a peanuts in a strange Amazon sale! The sound it's good but I forget to change to a Mono setting! I'll play it again trying to hear the difference.
In any case I realize the wealth is not at all 180 grams! I have weight my copy and it's only 143 grams. Anyone realized the same? -
Just picked up this copy of H61R.
I am very impressed with the mono pressing. Supposedly an "AAA" all analogue recording.
Just a word to people who are playing mono records on their stereo turntable, just make sure that either you have:
a) mono button on your stereo receiver
b) use the double "Y" cable method to sum up the R+L channels
c) or have a mono stylus/cartridge.
It'll sound a thousand times better! -
Got this for cheap, and the sound was mostly worth it. The end of Side A sounds very thin, however the rest of the album sounds like it should
-
I wonder how many here did listen to this with a mono cartridge. I did and to me this sound really good, solid bass, no harsh treble, Disk is flat, perfect pressing.
-
Can't agree with most reviews here. Music sounds a little flat to me. The treble is a bit to harsh, bass is on the low side. Dynamics seem very narrow. Or maybe I'm just not a mono type of guy.

i was really looking forward to listening to this after reading reviews for it. unfortunately i did not enjoy this pressing. the vinyl itself was dead quiet and very heavy, but the mastering was just disappointing. i know it is a very busy record with lots going on in some songs, but there was distortion on nearly every track. everything just felt jumbled together, bobs voice was distant. desolation row was an especially unpleasant listening experience.
