I had a little story about this recording. I saw that ECM were going to re-release it on vinyl so I pre-ordered a copy. Unfortunately when my copy arrived it had issues with distortion, I sent it back to the retailer who had difficulty finding a replacement copy. I eventually found a nice original copy on this site which sounds fantastic.

I just read that only 900 copies were original sold until it later became more popular. Is this the very first pressing or was there an earlier one? I guess those that sold later could have been pressed months or years earlier. Can't believe it was so disliked upon release. What an album!

ECM announced this classic will finally be reissued on vinyl as a part of their Luminessence series in 2024.

One of my favourite records by anyone. Even though Jaco apparently didn't have the 360 cabinet he usually played through and he was jetlagged when he recorded, this record is still a jazz milestone. Pat Metheny recently said that Gary Burton should have been credited at least as co-producer. It was recorded two days after Burton and Metheny recorded Dreams So Real in the same studio.
