Singer Peter Gabriel was with his then band Genesis during the first half of 1970s one of the inventors of progressive rock. After his departure in 1976 he transformed from a highly theatrical rock star to a more introverted cult hero, who with his first record to reach the general public knew hardly more. That changed with the album So (1986) and the singles "Sledgehammer" and Don't Give Up (with Kate Bush). Peter Gabriel knew now also as a solo artist to reach the top of the charts, without having any significant artistic concessions. G main asset is undoubtedly his characteristic hoarse voice, which belongs to the fraaisten in pop music. In addition he has an unmatched work ethic, making each new problem on all sides is correct. To the successor of the gloomy Us (1992) has worked for more than ten years. Up comes thereby initially what forced about but the haunting mix of rock and electronics know after some spins, partly due to the beautiful, melodic vocal lines, finally made it to convince.
