It's cut very quiet so volume needs to be turned up a lot, which increases awareness of noise. Also the bass is boomy and saggy , though it may be like that on all formats. It definitely needs some EQ IMO.
How gorgeous an album is this though? And the packaging is incredible, that rare album I actually like to look at while listening. -
B side sounds the worst, most noticeable on Black Lake. It doesn’t really bother me but i find it a little disappointing
-
Well mastered, nice packaging, relatively surface noise free, but 3 out of four sides of my copy are pressed off center which is rlly irritating. Black Lake (the highlight of the album) especially suffers from pitch fluctuation.

Probably top 15 albums ever for me! It’s a shame that an album like this is pressed so poorly. Throughout all sides there is a lot of surface noise, snaps, and crackling. It gets very distracting especially since this album plays around with contrast in volume. On the bright side, the mastering is perfect and the bass is BASSEY. O-card is rlly cool and the jacket is very high quality.

Wonderful album, but this press isn’t the best. Very surface noisy and distracting in the quiet parts, which there are a lot of in this album. It’s packaged beautifully, it just deserves a better press, I’ll stick with the cassette, which sounds much clearer.

Edited 8 months agoReviewing every record in my collection:
What a stunning pressing dear goodness! The packaging is amazing, but the sound is really good too, I personally would say the bass is a bit "Heavier" than how I would have liked it to be, but it can easily be fixed with tweaking a bit with the amplifier. Big soundstage and luckily, silent pressing. Black Lake and Family sound crazy with headphones. -
This MPO pressing is LOW and cracky. It's such a pity, becuase the album has lots of silences , so the surface noise is just killing the poetry here. I did a wet clean and it sounds better, but still...
-
I just got a sealed copy of this and I absolutely cannot get past the slipcase. I cannot open it; too tight. Anybody know how access the LPs without damaging the packaging?
-
Amazing pressing. really cool packaging, both discs on my copy are flat and have no surface noise aside from two pops on side A and the mastering is breathtaking. Overall more than impressed by this pressing especially considering all the complaints of surface noise issues
