This is an awesome but often overlooked tour de force by a super group with the time to do it right.

This is a great album and a pretty good sounding record.

Sounds clean dead silent. But had expected a bit more openness and dynamics. My love over gold quiex II pressing has much more dynamics.

My 2nd favorite after "Brothers". It's nearly as good (arguably better)--Fantastic songwriting, musicianship, & production, & (again) engineering from Neil Dorfsman.

Not a weak song here, but "Planet of New Orleans", "My parties", "You and your friend", & "Calling Elvis" are my favorites.

Each record side is around 30 minutes long which is not ideal for vinyls. Nevertheless the sound quality is surprisingly good! Glad to have this one ☺️

Very good recording! No distortions at all. Music is wonderful. One of my favorite records.

I bought this in 1991 and saw them live and it was a dream come true for me. I kind of moved away from it as the years went by and I did pick up an original UK pressing in the mid 00s but it's a single disc with a long running time so I might pull the trigger on the 2XLP edition. It's more of a Knopfler solo album even though John Illsley is the only original member left on bass here, along with Alan Clark, 1981 onwards, and synth wizard Guy Fletcher from the mid 80s worked with Mark on most projects since Cal in 1984. Again Chris White plays sax. Jeff Porcaro played drums, with Paul Franklin on dazzling pedal steel, Phil Palmer guitars and Danny Cummings percussion. So it's half band, half session men and half Straits half Knopfler, then again it was always Mark's band. The standouts for me are "On Every Street", "Planet Of New Orleans" and "You And Your Friend" while "Calling Elvis is good but to long and it sounds very sequenced. "The Bug" is like "Walk Of Life" and "Heavy Fuel" a bit mediocre and meaningless. I must reinvestigate it!
