Purchased this copy used, not long after it was reissued in 1997. Really glad I grabbed a copy back then. I paid $11 for it at Reckless Records, Chicago, at the time.

Agree. This is fabulous sounding. It is greatly superior to the (not bad sounding) VMP cut from digital.

The AS RKS cut must be from a scond or third gen tape as the rue masters were destroyed in the Universal fire.

I'm sticking with this one, which I believe to be the last time the true original master was used for vinyl.

Pretty simply put: I believe this is the best sounding version of the album on vinyl.

I found it a little hard to track down given it's often confused with the later VMP pressing has a very nice low end, but to my ears the highs to be distorted and less precise especially with the harp. Unlike this reissue, the VMP source is fairly removed from the original tapes. Of course the original 71 pressings are nice from a nostalgic perspective, but they weren't cut with the greatest attention to detail. Alice's home studio wasn't outfitted with the finest equipment or engineering and (as someone who owns all of her original pressings) I don't feel like Impulse ever made her a priority from a mastering perspective. The OGs are good, but lack the full sound and separation that I hear on this cut. I have found some of McMaster's best work has come from this series and this one is no exception. Excellent balances stereo sound, every instrument is clear and given its just due in the mix.

This seems to have snuck under the radar for years now for various reasons. But for me it has become the only copy that I play. Highly recommended.
