2013 UK & EuropeVinyl —LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered, Repress, Stereo
Reviews
-
While not my favorite Crimson album, I have no issues with this remaster. Mine is not noisy at all. The quiet parts (and there are many on this album) are sublime and the more bombastic bits have plenty of low end without being overkill. I find it a very smooth and listenable pressing.
-
Edited 4 years agothis reissue is amazing. EQ-wise it's much better balanced than the overwhelmingly-bassy UK 1st press.
-
Edited 4 years agoI don't like it either. On quiet parts, you have to turn the volume up so you can get more vocals & more guitar. As it happens, it unfortunately brings lots of pops and crackles to the forefront. But when an occasional sax or drums kick in, you just have to turn down beacause it's way TOO LOUD.
I did an another soundcheck on the atmospheric and orchestral "PRELUDE", unfortunately, it falls flat, neither particularly moving nor grandiose..
Overall, the sound is not bad, but there's nothing to brag about and
I must confess I feel a bit letdown by that particular output. -
I prefer the 40th remix almost all the way. It has nearly as good a bass as the UK original but with a better vocal presence like on this version without sacrificing other areas.
Ranking:
1. 40th Wilson Remix
2. UK original
3. 2010 Reissue -
Not really convinced by these panegeric reissues&remasterings...My Japanese copy blows this one away. other opinions?
