Notes
First press. "Freak Out - Hot Spots" map/poster offer printed on the inside of gatefold jacket. This ad was not on later issues, or was struck through.
On the Side A label of this pressing, track A3 (Who Are The Brain Police?) does not have a writing credit (Zappa), only publishing (Frank Zappa Music). This differs from Freak Out!, which includes both writing and publishing credits on the label.

Edited 2 years agoOne of my favourite albums of all time. It was my introduction to the mothers and I would not change anything about it.

HELP!
I have a stereo repressing, based on "no Freak Map" offer in the jacket, but there is no runout matrix - stamped or etched.
Could this be a bootleg or am I missing the release listed above?
Thanks! -
Edited 2 years agoI have one with a mono hot spot sleeve but with a small oval “stereo” sticker lower left. Discs have stereo labels. My guess is they pressed stereo discs but had some mono sleeves so used those up before printing stereo sleeves? Hybrid mono stereo?

...mutant rhythm & blues takes it's place in the maltshops / shopping malls / psychedelic dungeons of the great society of johnsons amerikkka...insinuating it's hungry freaks into the cuboid workaday world of' uptight plastic people, these unwashed beatnix poured their exotic doowop and folkprotest rock'n'roll into robot minds waiting to be free from the 'grip of chrome plated agony of the capitalist death cult waging its war against everything in its way...one of the early wax that kicked off hippy underground rock'n'roll noise of the mid 60's and the lyrics are still relevant (which is a stone drag cos not a thing was learned when the potential was at its highest)...asking questions that still need to be answered such as who are the brain police, can they freak out in kansas if it couldn't happen here...has one of' the only songs to talk honestly of the riots in watts in 65...last side (4) is an early avant-rock choogle blast that will melt teenage minds if protection isn't sought quickly...now even approved by suzy who really and sincerely recommends ya'll get some o' that motherly love...
