Edited 9 months agoCrimson Glory take the GnR route
Released in 1991, STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL was the third of four albums by Florida's Crimson Glory. The band always had a Led Zeppelin vibe updated to the late 80s with some prog-power metal influence, but here they opted for bluesy hard/light rock as opposed to the previous two albums, which were decidedly more metal in nature à la 70's Judas Priest or 80's Queensryche. The album clearly sounds like they were jumping on the GnR bandwagon because its so stylistically different. True, they always had a commercial side, but they upped the ante with STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL, which has no less than FOUR ballads.
I didn't like this change the first few times I listened to this album, but I completely changed my mind once I accepted the new direction. If you can handle the change, Crimson Glory plays this style proficiently and convincingly, as the songs "Promised Land," "The Chant" and "Dance on Fire" illustrate.
If you like this style, be sure to check out Bride albums like SKIN FOR SKIN (2006), TSAR BOMBA (2009) and KINETIC FAITH (1991).
