For The Field's fourth album, he brings a CUPID'S HEAD to the table, and everyone rejoices. Not because of a decapitated cherubim, of course, but because of the dark, quivering melody and loping percussion of "They Won't See Me" or the more familiar looped and layered sound fields of "Black Sea" that go from a major to minor key 2/3rds of the way through. On the title track, he plays with vocals, making them sound warm and enveloping, even as they circle themselves into abstraction, whereas "A Guided Tour" stays mostly light and airy. But my favorite track comes as the refraction of "No. No..." as it takes a simple negative and transforms it into a whirling, emotive mass. The album ends with "20 Seconds Of Affection," which again leans towards the atmospheric, echoing, in some ways, his work as Loops of Your Heart, though with a solid beat. A great continuation of his aesthetic ethos.
