Looks like this will get a vinyl release in 2024. -
What I appreciate the most about Jan Garbarek is his unconventional collaborations with artists in genres I would never expect to see an instrument so incredibly ingrained in the American Musical lexicon as the saxophone participate in. Case and point his collaboration with Fateh Ali Khan was a very unlikely meeting between east and west in a very special way, combining the rich and warm tapestry of hindustani/ragastani music with his warm tones. I certainly appreciate his willingness to push boundaries and here with Anouar's Oud and Shaukat's Table really makes this thing a special ride for sure. Definitely an artist I have to delve more into.
While I cant say this album uses all three artists to the best of their abilities, the first few bookend tracks definitely show hints of a great record coalescing. Sull Lull and Qaws are really the stand outs for me as they use all artists to great effect, other wise its mainly anouars oud on display, which I like but was expecting a bit more out of this project then just that.
