Several have commented on how this press beats the AP45, I'll add to that the AP UHQR. Like the AP45, the UHQR lacks the dimensional depth and is, like it's re-issue counterpart, just no fun compared with a good original. The problem with the original Artisan pressings is that they are all over the map. I have this one and a great sounding CTH, then I have two not so hot sounding CTH pressings. The thing is, once you get a good one you can just sit back and smile.

I hate myself for actually saying this, but after I heard this pressing, AP45 sounds a bit overly polished (sanitized I mean).
The original 1971 US pressing captures the raw energy of The Doors in a way that really brings out the soul of the album. There's some organic warmth here which is missing from AP45. Sometimes, the beauty of a record lies in its rough edges, and the AP45 seems to smooth that out a bit too much.
(p.s. AP45 is still fantastic sounding record, killer sound ! ) -

Edited one year agoAs ManosaKats has eluded to it is difficult to find a clean copy of this or any original pressing. I was lucky enough to find one in VG+ condition in a local record store for a reasonable cost. I can confirm the sound quality as have previously noted and vibrance of this pressing. This album was well recorded and I like this original as much or more than the AP45 which is also very very good. I agree with one of the other reviewers that this original sounds the more natural of the two as it is likely due to its pressing being from brand new master tapes. Nice to have one of each although easier said than done with finding a clean original without breaking the bank trying to find one. But, this one is definitely rewarding.

An excellent pressing, no doubt about it!
Every instrument is organic with no lack of depth, and all together create this masterpiece of a record. Manzarek's keyboards are immaculate on "Riders on the Storm" as well as Robby's guitar on "L.A Woman". And Jim Morrison's vocals are really clean and satisfying.
Overall, you can not go wrong with either this pressing or this album. It might be difficult to get ahold of a clean copy, but if you do, go for it! -
Edited 2 years agoProbably the best sounding version of this album. Huge, organic, natural and three dimensional sound. The 45 rpm, while excellent, sounds a bit more artificial and lacks the analog feeling.

This pressing sounds great even on g+ vinyl. Most pleased indeed! Always appreciate sellers who play test. Records often sound much better than they appear. This one certainly does.

Just bought a copy of this album with a pressing error: the label is the same on both sides (Side A), I think I got a “special” copy now :-) and it sounds really good!
