Edited 2 days agoFinally found a decent playing copy of this famed red label LZ III. Come across them quite a bit at record shows here in Canada but always in bad shape. This is very spacious sounding, dynamic, revealing, a lot of air on the high end but everything still sounding in the right place and very sweet and 3D-like. Tangerine and That’s the Way are incredible sounding. Wish there was just a little bit more bass overall but just nudging it up on my stereo really helped flesh it out at least on my setup. Some might find this a bit sibilant at times, especially hihat/cymbals, some vocal moments. I have the Classic Records pressing which is very good, one of the best records I have, but there’s more spaciousness and detail in this one, though it doesn’t have the thump and silky smoothness of the Classic. Hard to find a decent clean one for sure but worth hunting for to hear the detail and soundstage. For what it’s worth I also have the 2015 and I’m appreciating it more and more for its good balance between all these EQ characteristics of the different pressings I have even if it’s a little more compressed.

Red Label Canadian presses with TG in the deadwax seem to all sound great. This one is no exception.

Edited 10 months agoWow...just wow. Huge soundstage with so much energy & space to the sound, with bass to die for. Bonzo is the man on this pressing as his drumkit hits so hard on the rockers the sound just punches you right through the chest. Holy she-ite this sumbitch rocks...yet at the same time the beautiful acoustic numbers have a holographic ringing sweetness that is equally impressive. 'Tangerine' & 'That's The Way' just sound insane, so alive and 'in the room' it beggars description...

Edited 10 months agoBy far the best pressing of this album I have heard. I can only compare the 1975, 1977 and 2014 US reissues. Lots of low end and the high end was mastered tremendously. My '77 copy was a bit shrill on the top end and didn't have a lot of bass.

Edited 10 months agosounds like the vocals are mixed a little too low on this pressing, but the bass and drums are a good as others have mentioned.

Edited 10 months agoDiscovered this pressing reading the Steve Hoffman Forums where the folks there were calling out red label Atlantic first pressings from Canada as being among the very best LZ III vinyl copies ever released. This copy sounds very alive and natural, miles better than the Specialty Records AT PR Mastercraft So Mote Be It '77 reissue I've been listening to. Dig the 2 title misprints, too.

Edited 10 months ago1st Canadian press. Sounds great. A little to high almost. Not to the point of siblance. But the simbols really shine bright here. Which also means all on the drums are forward and in your face. All around in your face and great presance. Said to be one of the best sounding pressings of this album. Only thing I would wish for is a a little more thud in the low end. Not that there is none. Just could use a smidgen more. Rumored to be better than the first US. I haven't compared them but I'd find it hard to imagine it sounding any better. Only the quality records 200 gram
