I recently decided that if I could only have one album to listen to, out of all the brilliance that is out there, it would be "Catch A Fire". Deluxe 2LP edition, so both the original Jamaican & the Chris Blackwell UK overdubbed editions - ie, this album gets my vote as the greatest record ever made. by anyone.

Marley's first album for Island. From the very opening you can hear the production is much richer. Not only is the sound quality better, but there's over dubbed guitar on "Concrete Jungle", however when the Wailers signed to Island something was lost as well as gained: The two songs penned by Tosh, "400 Years" and "Stop that Train", had both appeared on earlier albums and I think the versions here lose some of their raw edge and actually suffer from the polished production of Blackwell. That said, this is undoubtedly an all time classic album, "Concrete Jungle", "Kinky Reggae" and "Stir it Up" being three of Bob Marley's most enduring songs.
