Edited 18 years ago'Rhythm Nation' alongside 'Control' is one of pop's finest moments of the 80s. Janet was very lucky to have a highly sophisticated team of musicians around her to direct her career, still there was some of her own personality attached that makes 'RN 1814' an enjoyable experience - in a way it wasn't just pop for it served some rather subversive image using memorable military elements to it; which was expressed in both, her acrobatic dance videos and sleeve art of the day - almost avantgarde in its feel, strongly black & white addressing social struggle issues, 'Rhythm Nation' is interpsersed with tiny tapeloop snippets even those of her alternative rivals would like to use - very pristine production assures this isn't some instant product, despite the fact she belongs to music industry's most exposed showbiz family. Instead of Janet's current, pointless sexy r'n'b affairs, try this album as better introduction to her, once modest cutie image of the new pop-queen.
