I really, truly wanted to love this record, but couldn't stop saying "Would you please quit whining ?". I can understand nearly anything, but i'm not going to shell out 5 or more dollars for an hour of whining and complaining, unless there's something special added on top of it, like sound effects or distortion. But unfortunately there's nothing there - maybe i'm just missing the point, but there were so many praises for this one (especially when someone like David Tibet is involved), but i don't find it attractive or interesting.

I Am A Bird Now stands apart in a era of cynical, retro/self-referential, detached music. One of the most startling, tender, unique records I have heard for a long time. Subtly subversive, Anthony has an ability to convey so much pure emotion, his voice with a timbré akin to Bryan Ferry's, yet wounded and blooded.
"Fistful Of Love", featuring Lou Reed, is a perfect example of how Anthony draws you into his dreams. Building slowly from Reed's spoken word intro over piano and guitar, Anthony's tale of sexual violence is punched home, the title sung as a mantra over a Stax horn groove.
There is somehow a soulful honesty at this albums heart. It doesn't feel self-indulgent or overwrought, but dark, ecstatic and most importantly, human.
