Edited 16 days agoTheres alot to like about this reissue but it has its flaws too.....
The Pallas press is nigh flawless being flat and quiet. The gatefold is decent and those high quality soft, poly lined inners Pallas use for PP and Speakers Corner have no equal.
However, there are mastering issues. Its cut hotter and brighter than what i like. Its got brilliant soundstaging and theres decent clarity but its not especially refined with my basic VM95E test needle and it lacks warmth. Playing alongside the MoFi One Step really exposes the brighter choice in the mastering/source here. The MoFi puts meat on the bones and tames the top end/presence region while adding dynamic ease and expanse. Its a clear victory for the One Step which it should be at the price (though some One Steps are overpriced disasters lol).
The Pure Pleasure does some stuff really well but its a brighter listen than id usually like. I would strongly recommend a high end needle/tracker that leans warm with a phono stage that doesnt run too brightly. My olde Shure puts some flesh on this that the AT E doesnt but its still a bonded elliptical itself which doesnt like hotness. The AT VM95ML tames the uppers but misses the meat - i cant win lol. Find the right cart/system balance and under those circumstances its recommendable! Maybe a Nag 110 or similar would do the trick. -

Very quiet vinyl, great pressing. Great fun listening to. This half-speed mastered version offers a bit more punch and air: https://discogs.librosgratis.biz/de/Blood-Sweat-Tears-Blood-Sweat-Tears/release/2517000
