Release comes in two different variations but with the same label, UPC, and catalog number. There is a version pressed in , playing at 33 1/3RPM. This is the a UK version (sometimes seen with a "Made In England" sticker) which must play at 45RPM. The labels for both versions state "33stereo", although the correct speed for this one is 45 RPM (and some could fancy playing it at 33 1/3RPM for special ambiance).

Tune! I buying this from Eastern Bloc round about the end of Nov 1989, I was a 17 year old college student and needed to split a tenner with a friend so this cost me £3.49 and I had change for the bus home up north manchester. I’d forgot my door key and sat outside my front door for a couple of hours until my mum came home and I was straight up to my bedroom to slap this on the deck, canned it for weeks.. happy days, where has 35 years gone?

Edited 2 years agoCan anyone explain the static that appears at 3:27 in the Pacific State - Origin version? (It's audible in the video above that is linked.) Is that an artistic decision? Seems odd in an otherwise clean mix. -
Edited 3 years agoSuch a classic, seminal track, that just has that special sprinkle of magic that makes it stand out from the crowd & gives it its longevity, still sounding fantastic today. Take your pick on the mixes they all have a slightly different twist, huge tune back in its day & one that will live on.

Landmark, one of those tunes we can all (just about) where we were when we first heard it.
Chemically altered or not. In a field or a sweaty basement club somewhere, or a warehouse, on pirate, on the M25, in a club in Leeds...
Still sounds as fresh today as it did back then. -

Edited 11 years agoThe story on a Guy Called Gerald is new to me. I guess I never got into the complete story. Never the less this is my all time favorite. The first time I ever saw / heard this track was on MTV party zone. It never got out of my system. And even today it's still one of best electronic records ever. Pacific 202 covers al large spectrum of fantastic sounds. The perfect mixing will keep it standing out for ever!! -

Kind of space travelers land on planet discogs.librosgratis.biz to leave an impression. In a galaxy far, far away :) I would like to comment the review from squishmusic: today this record is already 23 years old and still an all-time classic, it will always stay fresh.

Edited 13 years agoThis is the originl pioneering jazzy techno masterpiece that I am sure inspired Underground Resistance's World 2 World and Nation 2 Nation, as well as inspiring Dave Angel and Red Planet. This release is so smooth and easy on the ears. This tune has got to be one of the all time top 10 techno tracks of all time. AMAZING!

Do we need another review of this record? Well, it is an acid-house milestone and, I believe, just about as good as instrumental electronic music of any sort can get. Yep, this track is just about perfect - and all of the variations (including those mixes not found here) are equally enjoyable. In of who wrote the piece (as there seems to be some disagreement on the subject), I guess only the guys from 808 really know for sure. What I've heard (for what it's worth) is that Gerald Simpson wrote the bassline (and not the entire track). Regardless, this remains the track I play for people who don't know "techno" or "acid house" - just to show them how good it can get.
