Never actually heard this LP before, obviously heard the chart tracks… but, impressed! And the quality of this Japanese pressing is outstanding!

The sound is great. Good separation, nice vocals, sonics are crisp, bottom is deep. But 2021 Half-Speed Master (45 rpm) sounds even better for me. I think they did a good job with the remaster. The only problem with the latter is the awful modern quality control. Regarding this release I have to say, that the shortened versions of the songs sounds a little weird for me - I’ve always listened to the expanded versions. So in this rare for me case I prefer the modern version to the original Japanese.

Edited 2 years agoI have this Japanese pressing since 1985 and lways thought the Japanese is my go to pressing because they sounds so good to my ear until I got US original pressing that I found the US pressing unbeliveably has more clarity and wider soundstage. The Japanese sounds has a bit hash compare to US pressing too. Having said that I'm still keeping the Japanese for nostalgia's sake.

I picked up a copy of this recently feeling you couldn't possibly improve on the original pressing. I was mistaken. This Japan pressing is actually the best I've heard to date. I know there are all kinds of other 45 rpm versions etc., but if you get this pressing you won't be disappointed.

Great sounding record! Compared this to the new mofi 45rpm and preferred this one. Mofi has more details but somehow sounds on the bright side and therefore it is not true "Dire Straits" sound. Japanese pressing is very natural and a breeze to listen.

Great album and great to see that vinyl has outlived CD, when this was the album to really showcase the power of CD. First side is flawless, second side with a couple of weak tracks but finishing with the best track of all "Brothers in Arms". Great pressing.

My second Dire Straits album in vinyl but my first in a Japanese pressing... and what a sound !!! Odd when you think that this album was used to promote cd's at the time of its release.
Some of the tracks are different in length then there cd's versions. But overall a great addition to my collection.
