not sure why they don’t make more of these. there is obviously a market. $200 for the CD is just WILD
-
would it be so hard to do even just one run of CD represses? this is the kind of music that thrives on a digital lossless format
-
Best heard as the 4xCD format on a good quality CD stacker player. Then one can pick their spot and absorb this superbly well written and executed immersive soundtrack

I realized I have one of the original 4CD releases signed by Jeremy Soule. Pretty cool! One of my favorite video game OSTs.

I got the black-vinyl issue from 2020. It looks like it's 180gr vinyl (but is not noted as such), so should be high quality audiophile, but it does fall short. Vinyls came in paper-only inner sleeves (with central hole), and came out of the package covered in dust and paper motes. So I needed to wash them first. Also, I saw 2 small superficial scratches, and three scuff marks; all possible due to the records being stuffed in those paper inner sleeves (which were made from 'hard' paper). Happily, none of these result in audible damage. The paper inner sleeves I immediately changed for sleeves with inner soft-plastic lining. Record 4 is considerable warped, but does play well.
I note that the sound has been recorded on a fairly low level (possibly in order to get up to 28 minutes of music on one side). Itself not a problem, but the surface isn't totally quite; there is a faint hiss, which becomes notable when listening with head-phones.
So cranking up the volume is a problem.
In all, great music, and the package looks very fine indeed, but for the money I would expect a far better pressing! -
Unbelievably good and underrated soundtrack. All tunes are amazing, but "Journey's End" sticks the most on my mind. If you played Skyrim, then you should appreciate this amazing soundtrack even more. I already strongly ired it before I played Skyrim!

One of the main reasons I purchased this set was "From Past to Present". I definitely understand what you are talking about with this soundtrack. It is captivating.

"Secunda" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard in a video game, ever. Hard to believe that something with such a short runtime could actually be a principal reason to own this set, but it's true. Beyond that, the epic ambient excursion on disc 4 is well worth the price of ission alone. A really lovely set that belongs in the collections of gamers and audiophiles alike.
