I received this LP and the new James Brown - 20 Greatest Hits today. Sadly, this Clairo release sonically is a let down. Outshined on many fronts by the James Brown release as a simple comparison. A remaster from tapes created 60 years ago should not outperform a new artist release IMO.
The volume is slightly low and the overall sound is dull - the mids and highs are very low, if there at all. I noticed that the ed version I was listening to on iTunes had these same characteristics which I thought were a compression issue and would not be heard on the vinyl release…I was wrong. Clairo’s other two LPs are great sonically, but something happened here. Since it’s not a media issue I’m guessing it was a mix problem.
The songs are great, the album is great, just too bad the listening experience on this release doesn’t match.
