Cool zoetrope effect with a camera and light. Vinyl is a little noisy, but a fun one to have. However I received 2 copies of Disc 1. So If anyone has 2 copies of Disc 2, maybe we could trade. Ha

For those of you having trouble seeing the zoetrope effect I found a cheap solution. I bought a little battery-operated LED Halloween strobe light. The strobe can be sped up or slowed down until you see the effect. What's cool about this is that as you adjust it the pictures will rotate clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the speed. The record can even look as if it is spinning in reverse and the label area is spinning normally. Amazing what they can do these days! These are the kind of things that make collecting vinyl more fun than other formats.

I put the needle down on disc 1 side A and was a little startled at the windy rumbling sound before the overture. It is notable. I really didn't know what to expect but I was surprised. The music sounds good and I really don't notice it when the music is actually playing, but this was one of the first albums where I consciously noticed surface noise, and I own an ET picture disc. :)
The album design is very nice with a matte finish, and I got a Zero inner sleeve.
If you buy this don't enter into it as an audiophile expecting a drop dead silent copy of the album. -
Mine doesn’t have any surface noise once i get rid of the static and i cleaned it properly! Got mine at barns and nobles.

As another commenter mentioned, I think there may be a new edition of this record. My copy has Zero instead of Oogie Boogie. I will say that my copy is fantastic-- it has the best playback of any picture disc I've ever owned (which to be fair is a pretty low bar). It does have some light surface noise, but it's minimal and only during some sections.
The zoetrope animation is really neat too! Its probably not a great audiophile edition, but if you want a version with beautiful sleeves and a pretty pressing, this one is great without sacrificing too much audio quality. -
Edited one year agoJust bought this at Target. I think it may be a new version. On the inner sleeve for the first disc, there is a picture of Zero instead of Oogie Boogie.
It sounds good for a picture disc. Some surface noise, but not bad. The zoetrope effect is really good. There is a trick to it though.
Most people use ilumiscope for iphone, but I have an android which doesn't seem to have a similar app to record video. After much digging, I found something that works (at least on Samsung phones). On the camera app, go to pro video mode and set the speed to 1/500. Use these settings to look at the disc with your phone. Works really well, and you can record a video. -
Gave the comment on the wrong item…. (Blushing).
The zoetrope effect is disturbed by the grooves, so I can see vague movements… But after all, it’s to beheard, and that leaves me no cause to complain. Only the gimmick gave me some extra costs!
Nice album! -

the zoetrope doesn’t work for me but it sounds pretty good. quieter than most other picture discs i’ve owned. would have preferred a black vinyl
