“The Sound of Perseverance” is Death’s final studio album, released in 1998, and is widely recognized as a pinnacle of technical and progressive death metal. This 2021 reissue by Relapse Records features the album on double 180g black vinyl, presented in a gatefold sleeve with gold lettering, ensuring both visual and auditory authenticity.
The album showcases Chuck Schuldiner’s visionary approach, successfully blending complex compositions with philosophical lyrics. Notable tracks such as “Scavenger of Human Sorrow,” “Spirit Crusher,” and “Flesh and the Power It Holds” highlight the band’s technical prowess and emotional depth. The instrumental piece “Voice of the Soul” provides a melodic respite, while the cover of Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” pays tribute to their metal roots.
This reissue captures the essence of Death’s evolution, making it a must-have for collectors and fans of the genre.

A lot of surface noise and very noticeable pops throughout every side. Could be my pressing since I had received 3 lps unlike the mentioned 2 here, all black no demos. Cover art and insert are stunning however, the only reason this is getting a two-star instead of one. Sadly, do not recommend this press. However, absolutely amazing album music-wise.
