Edited 20 days agoI've just done a back to back of my Japanese 76 against my Japanese red vinyl 69. The 76 wins the shootout. It's "bigger" in most aspects, and while bigger doesn't always mean better, it does here. The red 69 is a touch thinner and harsher. "Come Together" is such an incredible and incredibly recorded song that it's easy to start there with any vinyl version and think "wow", but you get through the album and start to notice deficiencies on the red 69 not heard on the 76. It's 76 for the win, for me. Red 69 going up for sale.

these flag series pressings get a lot of shit from some quarters, but at least in this case they're dead wrong: this absolutely smashes every other pressing of this album I own.

Great sounding pressing; the bass kicks your arse, but the mids and highs are very crisp and clear as well. The only flaw is a slight warble in the music - a tape transfer issue? - on side 2 Here Comes The Sun and Because.
Hard to believe that got past QC but it's only a second and I probably wouldn't have noticed it either if I hadn't read about it in forums. Otherwise it sounds great and is still reasonably priced. -
Edited 4 months agoIn comparing this '76 to the '73 AP press, this one has a boomier low end and warmth, but the AP has more clarity if you like to hear those individual notes a bit better, in my opinion. Both are decent, and it would come down to personal preference and system set up.

Rediscovered this Japanese pressing of Abbey Road which is now 47 years in my collection. Oh my god it sounds so amazing. Great dynamics, sound stage and I hear so many details which I had forgotten listening to other releases of the album.

Edited 4 months agoAs others said, there is a little tape warble on Here Comes the Sun, but the whole album sounds wonderful. Great separation and a really beautiful sound on the bass and drums. Noticed a gradual (and ever so slight) volume decrease as side 2 moves through towards the end, but that’s understandable given the length of the album. Don’t hesitate to grab a copy if you come across one.

Edited 10 months agoI have a Japan issue that includes a lyric sheet in Japanese and English; "STEREO EAS-50042" on jacket, top right. "Her Majesty" is not listed on the jacket but is listed on side B label. No text on the runouts.

Edited 10 months agoStumbled upon this gem in a Japanese antique store in L.A. during a holiday two years ago, and while I don't have a lot of experience with vinyls and my collection is pretty small, this is by far the best pressing I own. Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time, and I've listened to it hundreds of times in other formats, and still, with this pressing, I heard details that I never heard before. Granted, my ears are quite untrained, but even I could notice how insane the clarity is.

Everyone should have a copy of this. I like it much better than my UK '75 press. I just listened to both copies back to back and this Japanese is far more satisfying.
