I own the first pressing of this album in pink vinyl and this reissue and have just realised, rather by chance, that the first pressing sounds worlds better than this reissue, even though the whole album was cut to two sides and not four as here. In comparison, this reissue sounds dull and lifeless. Better to save up for the first pressing. This reissue is not worth the money.

My copy sounded dreadful. Really compressed - like a CD stuck on vinyl. I played it recently after playing an old Teardrop Explodes album and the drop in quality was evident from the start. Dick Around - all the way through it, I found a kind of aural mush and a low level distortion throughout. This continued on the next track and when I played a random track on the second disk, same again.
Sparks albums have never been audiophile. The 70s classics all sound murky but the songs and performances save them. This one is just painful. One for ebay unfortunately. -

Perfect. Clean and quiet vinyl. Along with Balls, and Lil’ Beethoven all these reissues have been great for me. No visible surface scratches, no pops and clicks. I have an original pressing that’s white vinyl and it’s got surface noise and is also only one record. This is definitely much better sounding split into two records.

Edited 3 years agoAnother album I couldn't get into on CD.
This reissue is Fabulous. The dynamics on "Dick Around" are incredible. Heavy piano, then very light piano, orchestra the same, and just wait until the rhythm guitar kicks in-woah-HEAVY! The separation when both brothers are singing is stunning. No distortion when played loud. Superb silent background. Printed lyric inner sleeves. Lovely colour gatefold outer sleeve. (The hype sticker won't come off without tearing,so be careful!).
Linn LP12/Ekos/Ortofon Rohmann/Dynavector-DV75/Bel Canto/Shahinian Arc.
One of the best records i've ever heard for dynamics, separation and clarity.
Highly recommended L.P.
