Edited 10 years agoThe double meaning of the term 'stoned' was wasted (pun intended) on most listeners to this tune, who were probably quite fried when they jubilantly shouted: "everybody must get stoned!'.
A weak, silly Dylan song. He is pandering to his audience here much like Chuck Berry embarrassed himself with his 'hit', "My Ding-A-Ling". Why this bit of trifle was selected to open Bobby's masterpiece "Blonde on Blonde" is anybody's guess. Song has dated terribly, much like a Cheech and Chong movie.
