As the Rubellan site is shutting down, I asked the Wayback Machine to back up the page for this release: https://web.archive.org/web/20250326014922/https://www.rubellanremasters.com/visage-beat-boy

The Rubellan reissue is AMAZING. I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for this album, but had only ever bought the original vinyl release and then the Cherry Red reissue. Hearing the Cassette Remix Edition for the first time today is a revelation, and not just because of the phenomenal remastering, but because these mixes are far superior to those I was previously familiar with and add much more depth to the songs. A great album that is as good as any other Visage album in my opinion. I absolutely love it.

Fantastic sounding remaster.
As for the quality of the album, I have learned to like it.
Too bad an instrumental version of yesterday's shadow was not available to put here, because this tracks would have been better with no vocals.

Sounds excellent, just like every Rubellan Remasters edition I have purchased. It's just a shame neither this or the Cherry Red edition has any of the Dub versions of Beat Boy. (Cherry Red wanted to include the Machine Mix on their CD but apparently the original tape for this was not found. Good luck for the future Scott,

RUBELLAN REMASTERS 2022 fantastic editions MUST absolutely...
great album with rare bonus tracks very nice.
excellent as usual the remastering by Rubellam...
cool edition! -
Beat Boy is an album I bought years ago just to complete my Visage LP collection. I had heard Beat Boy (the single), and while it has a great bassline I really couldn't stomach the progression to harsh digital synth production (not to mention the move into more US-based "funky" sounds). To be honest I played the LP once and since then I only return to it to play Love Glove.
So it was with some trepidation that I decided to also complete my Visage CD collection by picking up this remaster. Well, as usual Scott has done a sterling job. It sounds better than ever.
But sadly, while it sounds fantastic (technically) the music is still there. I tried once again to "get" this album but I just can't. Those constant crashing snares hitting you square in the head, the squaking sax overtaking the music at will, just the overall feeling of the album being so far removed from what I love about Visage.
I said this in another review of an unrelated album, but if you compare The Human League's Dare with Crash, it's that vast difference in feeling that I find so jarring.
It's a real shame as there are clearly great songs here, but the production is just too bombastic for my taste. Even the much celebrated Yesterday's Shadow is ruined in my eyes. It's a nice enough chillout song, but then the snares & sax shout "BOOORING" and kick the door down while everyone's blissfully relaxed.
Yeah I still don't like this album. But on the plus side at least I have a top quality copy of Love Glove now. -
This is a fantastic remastered and expanded edition of 'Beat Boy' by Rubellan Remasters. What a clear and dynamic sound ! Strongly recommended !!

Edited 3 years agoA superb sounding cd as always by Rubellan Remasters. This special cassette edition version is finally out on CD and is worth every cent. The bonus cuts include the unreleased 7" mix of Yesterday's Shadow, perhaps Visage's most atmospheric moment.
