MoFi just announced a new pressing. No release date mentioned but it's available to order:

Side I and 2 are unbelievable strong with some of the best playing of this line-up but letting Azar Lawrence audition in the latter part of the gig wasn't such a good idea. Also, we could have done without Gaumont's Hendrix-fixation.

This is one of the best jazz rock fusion live albums ever released. Miles has always been untouchable with changing styles nd throughout the 1970s he was on a particular stellar path right up to his "retirement" in 1975. Dark Magus represents a rare combination of three guitarists thrashing it out with stellar and additional accompaniment. Every time you listen to this you will hear something different as the various components lock, break away and link again in a new formation. There will never be anything like this ever again.

The so-called Legacy issues have different pictures and essays. It's just that the Japanese mixes are way more impressive.

I have the Japanese '91 cd mix. I think it's clean and dark. I've had a vinyl version and this cd mix. Two different mediums. Both are great. I agree, the American versions are white bread in comparison.

IMO (I have all japan pressings in NMINT condition) [2nd 1979] 36AP 1785-6 > [3rd 1981] 28AP 2165-6 > [1st 1977] 40AP 741~2. 1stPress is loud but more dark in sound, 3rd press is slightly quieter but better, more bright sound yet lacking a bit of bass; 2nd press is as loud as 1st press and has the most natural sound, not so dark as first press and not so bright as 3rd press and with perfect bass punch. 2nd press and 3rd press have somehow enhanced stereophnics in comparison to 1st press, maybe just because they are a bit brighter or wider bandwidth.
