Not a great pressing by GZ. The remaster is pretty good, but the quality control less so. There's some loud crackle throughout 4th Of July and Bad, and less intrusive noise and some sibilance throughout the entire record. If you can find a clean original copy for a better price, then definitely go for that! Overall grade: 6/10

Edited one year agoMy copy has:
Matrix / Runout (Side A runout): 188854E1 1476873 1792416-A 1792416-AS CB/SS
Matrix / Runout (Side B runout): 188854E2/A3 1480793 1792416-B 1792416-BS CB/SS
And disk weights 170 gr. -
Just picked this up from Acoustic Sounds and it sounds pretty good even though GZ pressed. FYI: they are using the newer CB/SS lacquer from BG Mastering for this edition not the original BG cut lacquer. All the runout data corresponds to later 2019 wine color edition but bar code and black vinyl is from this edition.

I just gave my copy a spin again and I think it sounds pretty good. It definitely seems a tad flat in some spots, but other than that the soundstage is really pleasant on this. My copy is super quiet and is free from any issues that others mentioned below. I don't have the original pressing to compare to but I'll try to get that soon enough.

Pretty good reissue, considering. Trounces the original U.S. pressing, which is not great.
That said, I just snagged an original UK and THAT is the version to get. The "flat" sound of this reissue is mostly gone with that pressing. More dynamic, better and deeper bass.... Just a better version all around. -
The sound of this reissue is actually pretty amazing, to my ears. Before play I gave it a quick clean on my Record Doctor VI (as I do with all new vinyl) and it really brings out the dynamics of this pressing...probably the best sounding master of the album. However, I would rate the pressing quality a mere 1 star as it is quite noisy...even after cleaning there is a lot of surface noise throughout the entire play. It's ok during louder tracks, but the crackling noise is really apparent between tracks and during quieter ages. Again, the mastering is actually amazing...really brings this album to life....but the pressing quality, well, typical of a GZ pressing from 2009. The burgundy coloured version is much better!

It looks good. Feels like quality packaging and cover art is superb. Great album but just one little problem, GZ pressed it- so don't expect noiseless vinyl.

My copy has awful buzzing noises throughout 4th of July and into Bad, not happy.
A shame as the remastering is great -
I recently picked this up new from Amazon and I have to concur. With my Naim Aro / Sondek setup the only thing that lets down this 2009 RM is the recording techniques around at the time. The pressing sounds very clear, surface noise low, the only down side is the lack of bass processing and it has that 80's flatness... the Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary is another matter - it sounds absolutely huge! Still it's a classic album, sounding better than any original version I have owned.
