I find Elvis Costello's impact on Discogs rather odd. Here is an artist whose first five years of output (during the golden age of pop music on vinyl!) include alternative editions and other mischief that is catnip to record collectors and yet, on Discogs, he doesn't get a lot of attention. Oh yeah, and the music itself is amazing. Maybe because those odd editions just sold too much?

Anyway, it's hard to beat this sleek yet intense distillation of the man's own state of mind and a music attack that flirts with callbacks to the Stones, Dylan, and garage punk generally. It's also cool how he was already moving on from this mode to the more "modern" arrangement style in "Night Rally."

There are also a zillion other 2CD editions of this album (it's before the era of brick-walling), but I think this one sounds great and is enough for most people.
