Thoughts About The Music Itself: Great
There is something about this movie that I truly love, even if it has a more mature and serious tone in comparison to most other Ghibli movies. I think no other shows violence and blood that much too.
Noise: High
Brickwalling & Clipping: None
Clicking, Crackling & Other Audio Stream Errors: Some
Mastering In General: Bad
This is such shame... The score is sadly full of noise and crackling and such. I am referencing the Ghibli box CD copy but most vinyl enthusiast seem to report the same. The problem probably stems from the masters themselves and they pressed the same one on the vinyl. Sure, I have heard worse but for such a high grade movie production and soundtrack this is really a shame. I wonder what happened here since this is rather unusual for Joe Hisaishi. Either the recording sessions were bad to begin with or whoever mastered this failed completely. HOWEVER, I actually noticed there are several releases of this including HDCDs? I might actually try to get ahold of a different copy and see if it is any different there, reporting back later.
Final Verdict Audiophidelity: 5/10
How Enjoyable The Music Is In General: 8.5/10 -
Edited 5 years agoBeautiful soundtrack, and I love how amazing the packaging is as well! The full-length theme of the movie is the very last track, which translated to English is "The Legend of Ashitaka Ending." The 1:40 second track at the beginning is just the movie's intro music that plays behind the voiceover (for the dubbed movie, I don't know if the original also has a narration explaining the story at the beginning).
The music quality is amazing save for a bit of clipping & crackling here and there (it was 1997 after all, so a bit unfair to compare to modern soundtracks). Overall would highly recommend! -
Edited 5 years agoIt contains 33 tracks, some of which even I (as a huge fan of the movie) don't even recognize but all of them are cut so short that I'd rather put the actual movie on than this CD, at least there I get (more or less) full-length versions.
I mean this is the official soundtrack and the main theme of the movie is barely 1:40 minutes long..... It is a nice collector's item but nothing more sadly.
