Reviews

Edited one year agoOne of my all-time favorite albums, and now it's been lovingly expanded, enriched, and transformed into the one of the most thoughtfully compiled and designed box sets I've ever owned. I can't believe I only paid $25 for a brand new, sealed copy of this masterpiece. My only quibble, and it's a tiny one, is that they didn't include the two 7" singles with the double LP vinyl reissue as well.
-
Edited one year agoOn disc 6 (the 'I Can See For Miles' 7" single), 'Someone's Coming' has an unusual (and unique?) sound at the end... like a machine motor warming up.

I received my copy from Amazon (US) yesterday, so I have not yet had a chance to listen to any of this box, so this review is solely about the packaging.
Overall the box is very nice. The CDs are in card sleeves that are nicely and snugly inserted into individual slots in the inside of the front and back covers to the hardback book (CDs 1 and 2 in the front cover, 3-5 in the back cover). A cursory review of the book is that is very nicely done.
Unfortunately, the reproduced memorabilia and the two seven inch singles are loosely placed into a flip-top box. This means everything inside is free to move around during transport. A few of the pieces of memorabilia and both seven inch singles in my box have bent corners, and both seven inch singles have minor seam splitting on the bottom of the sleeves. A poor design choice on the part of the label, I must say.
The box comes with two plain black seven inch adaptors in a resealable plastic pouch. This is a nice touch for the non-vinyl collector who may not have adaptors on hand, but for collectors like me who have more adaptors than we know what to do with, it would have been nice if the ones included in this box had The Who printed on them to make them special. -
i got this beautiful 5 cd box set yesterday, i did the best i could & a rather large review for this last night on amazon who i got this from as i was taking no chances back in february and i pre ordered this at once, anyway THIS IS AN OLD WHO FANS DREAM!!!! Discogs is out of control. Already there are 4 copies for sale, and all 4 copies are more expensive than buying new...not to mention shipping on top of that. Discogs has become the new Ebay, the 'speculator market' has reached a point of lunacy.

This is a great box set. Some of the absolutely amazing content on Disc 3, 4 and 5 are worth more than the price of the entire box. Credits were accidentally omitted for Andy Maherson (Revolution Studios, Manchester, UK) for his bonus track remix work on disc 2 and disc 3 (between 1995 & 2014) and Richard Weiner, for his donation of "I'm Thinking Of You All The While" ("Sunrise" demo V2).

also please note, there is a JAPAN EXCLUSIVE edition of this box set coming out and all discs will be remastered with the japanese only SHM remastering available only in japan, if you want to spend a bit more you can go to www.cdjapan.co.jp to pre order your copy as the site even warns these will be gone fast.....
