It happens.
Many times, a film is nothing but average at best, worthy of just being watched once just to be forgotten straight away, but there's something on it that is worthy of remaining.
This was the case of 'The Da Vinci Code'.
A product clearly marketed for the hungry masses after the crazy success of the (average at best) book it was based on, the film is not a complete failure due to three factors: Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou (to be honest it's not like her performance was exactly outstanding here but hey, the lady is a personal weakness of mine!) and, of course, Hans Zimmer's score.
Through his score, Zimmer managed to give Dan Brown's story the layer of darkness, esoterism and transcendence that, in my opinion, Ron Howard couldn't infuse into the sequences he shot.
Though far from being among Zimmer's most memorable works, the German composer managed to create spine- chilling ('The Paschal Spiral'), eerie ('Beneath Alrischa'), blissful moments ('Poisoned Chalice') and even infuse some epic feeling ('Chevaliers De Sangreal') in a story that was not quite skillfully translated to the screen, lacking the pulse, the heartbeat of a truly living and believable tale.
Just for that achievement, this soundtrack deserves to be ed.
