Impeccable quality. No "remaster", SACD, 180g, "anniversary", "from master tapes" gimmick can show even 50% of its greatness. The only exception being Alan Parson's quadraphonic mix, which is also definitely worth a listen, if you have a multichannel speaker system.

Very quiet vinyl and a very good pressing.
Sounds very good to me....it sounds like a real Japanese pressing....i like it.
I prefer this one instead of the BG remaster wich sounds also amazing -
I would like to say this is a good pressing and you can see tan EMI as label sticker though it sounds too polite to me. Also Harvest and EMI logos on the top right of the cover.

It's already been said here many times. Quiet vinyl and a clarity that is just stunning. I have far too many copies of this including an OG UK and this is the one i keep pulling of the shelves to play.
It's right on the 'Money'...as the sax kicks in you realise this is something else, as the guitar flies you just know.
How this compares to the Japanese pro version, well I am yet to find out. Will update soon. -
Edited one year agoThis LP is just the cherry on the cake, best LP in my collection by far and its perfect in every single way.
The details are so much clearer and better than a regular release. I can hear the footsteps in "on the run" very clear, for example which you cant hear on some pressings at all. Also the "Speak" To Me" with all the voices (just like Money) are perfectly optimized and feels really "alive"
Yes this LP can be bloody expensive, but search with care and find atleast a NM condition. It took me several months to find a NM one for reasonable money. (Find one with an OBI, it makes it look fantastic)
Its 50 years old, but it sounds better than the regular release, remasters and it blows the 50th anniversary edition away by a landslide.
Mine did come with the OBI, Japanese booklet, posters and postcard.

Edited one year agoGlittering blackness. The quietest vinyl I own by far, wow.
I had been after a Japanese pressing for many years as I had read much online about how quiet these are. It's true without a doubt. Highly dynamic at the same time with some excellent highlights I noticed for the first time:
1. Amazing vocals on great gig where you can sense Clare Torry moving closer and further away from the microphone as she belts out her wails.
2. Unbelievable blinding thru the mix guitar tone on gilmours solos in time and money. Time gave me gooseflesh and standing hairs before I headbanged uncontrollably.
3. First time I had ever noticed either the use of a Hammond Leslie speaker on Ricks organ during the beginning of us and them or this is Parsons panning the channels back (I'm guessing it's a Leslie as the pan would be severely precise which is possible but very difficult)
4. Multiple 4+ echoes of the vocals on the line "down and out" during Us and them which I had never noticed that many before.
5. Absolute bazooka low bass fuzz by waters on any colour you like.
6. Amazing mix of the backup vocals on eclipse without knocking the lead vocals somewhere else but the middle near the top.
Honestly the only thing that I found potentially underwhelming is the cymbal crashes by mason during several different songs. I will have to compare these further to the 2016 remaster.
I have never heard an original UK press as it's too rich for my blood but compared to a VG+/NM of this I don't know that you will get much more bang for your buck.
I will say I think any pressing of this quality is very highly system dependent and you may find it lacking wondering what all the fuss is about. I had ran a mid tier system for about a decade before recently upgrading it significantly and then deciding to finally pick up some Japan Floyd presses.
My brother for instance runs a much simpler lower end setup and I think the 2016 remaster sounds great on his system. But if you have that hifi setup this is an absolute must add to your collection. Plus you will still have enough cash leftover to make a stash. -
Glorious pressing on all s. Well worth spending the time to track down a NM pressing - you will be well-rewarded. SQ is warm, detailed and spacious. Artwork glossy, and the bonus material is first-rate. Compares very favourably to the UK OG, so you don’t need to part with vast sums of cash to get something that sounds similar, and has a quieter background.

The sound is just so great. I’m very happy to have this version in my collection. I’ve heard many good words about this pressing, and yes - it’s all true. Vinyl is as quiet as it can be.

Hey everyone, I’ve just picked up this copy but I’m struggling to identify the matrix on side B, it is: SHVL-804-B 1S2 37. I can’t find a match on the archives, wondering if anyone can help. Thank you.
