I have never been nor will I ever be a fan of Frenchcore, it's just not my cup of Tea. However in the early 2000's, I was exposed to Gobble Records and I really liked some of the tunes. It was a different approach and interesting take on Hardcore Techno. I was reliably told by experts in French Hardcore that Tieum and Gobble Records was the closest to Dutch Gabber, which probably explains my interest in the first place. I'm sure there are better examples of Tieum and his particular sound especially around the turn of the century, but this record is my favourite of his.
French People Piss Me As sounds like a French person with a sense of humour and not so good grasp of English, although I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as it could have been a design mistake. Heavy Neophyte kickdrums provide the basis of the tune. I'm pretty sure Tieum has sampled Doodlesax by Ruffneck and Mikey B. One of the synths used in the track sounds like an angry animal or bird, its a unique sound in that Tieum style, I've always liked it and sounds great on a loud system. By far the most memorable part of the tune is the hilarious South Park sample used, it never fails to crack me up! The sample is from Season 1 Episode 5: An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig. The broken up synth riff in the second half is also quite good. French People Piss Me As was the signature track played by my dear friend DJ Erazor, he played it all throughout the 2000's, much to the pleasure of us DJs and party people.
K 1000 V Ner is actually a good tune. A much faster Hardcore track with hard Gabber kicks. The first sound is a simple Hoover synth line and later a loud sound effect getting crossfadered (is that a word?) into the track. After a dope Hip Hop breakdown with beat boxing and scratches, the loud sound effect is used more regularly. The killer rap sample is from Fat Joe's verse off Fire Water by Big Punisher. I think its the Hip Hop elements that do it for me.
Drugs uses an off kilter synth riff that reminds me of BSE on Babyboom Records or old school Neophyte, its unusual but effective. The rest of the tune is rather lacklustre. I'm fairly certain Tieum has sampled Federation Against Mellow.
The only noteworthy aspect of the B2 track is a French person using a Dutch word to name his song. Hakken means cutting or slashing (and Heels!), and it's where the infamous Hakkeuh Gabber dance originates from. Apparently the hand movements of the dance looks like you are cutting someones head off! I could be wrong about this. Anyway, this tune won't be on Tieum's Greatest Hits.
I have fond memories of French People Piss Me OFF, overall its a solid Hardcore record from with that slightly left of centre production style by Tieum. Très bon.
