The Roots' most experimental album, Phrenology may not be as consistently brilliant as Illadelph Halflife but is undoubtedly the record where you will find their most creative music. Astonishingly diverse, the tracks encom everything from smooth R&B (Break You Off), hardcore punk (!!!!!), Techno (untitled), fusion (Something in the Way of Things) and completely off-the-wall avant-garde psychedelia (the second half of Water). Black Thought is on top of his game throughout and Talib Kweli makes a killer guest appearance on Rolling with Heat, so you can rest assured that the spitting is of a high grade. One of the boldest and most rewarding Hip-Hop albums in history and a testament to the ingenuity and vision of The Legendary Roots Crew.
